An Experimental Study on Improving Speaking Skills Through the Integration of Existential Intelligence for Post Graduate Learners of Business Studies
Within the field of ESP, the constrained access to discipline-specific materials has intensified the demand, emphasizing an acute necessity for refining speaking skills, particularly in conversational contexts. This reflects an evolving paradigm, emphasizing the critical need for refined and specialized speaking competencies within their scholarly domain. The dissertation examines the use of a learning module created for Postgraduate students of Business studies to improve their speaking skills. The study uses Task based Language Teaching (TBLT) approach and excerpts from Literature for pedagogical instruction, employing Dialogic Inquiry Model (DIM) as a framework and using Existential Intelligence as a guiding lens. Language and Intelligence are closely intertwined. Educational Psychologist Howard Gardner posed a challenge to the conventional notion of Intelligence which supported higher IQ based tests by introducing the Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Gardner's Intelligence framework initially comprised of seven types. In 1999, he introduced Existential Intelligence (EI), expanding the model to include EI as a half intelligence, but due to its abstract nature and lack of clear brain localization, it has posed challenges for precise quantification. Furthermore, Howard Gardners Intelligence Reframed (1999) was used as the primary text for the study. By contextualizing the study within Higher Education's Business studies domain, it examines how existential principles influence the development of speaking skills. Additionally, it explores how these principles contribute in shaping aspiring business entrepreneurs, providing added motivation to instill a sense of purpose which will enhance their managerial attributes. The research argues that infusing unexplored existential elements into the curriculum can stimulate critical thinking among Business Studies students, resulting in notable improvements in specific speaking dimensions like Fluency, Turn-Taking, Presentation and Negotiation skills (FTPN). Moreover, it highlights the pivotal role of this integration in reshaping ESP curricula to better cater to the unique needs of learners in this discipline. The research comprised of two cohorts of students. The first cohort consisted of first- year postgraduate students pursuing Business Studies at Sinhagad Institute of Management (SIOM), Pune while the second cohort included students from CHRIST Deemed to be University) Pune Lavasa Campus, resulting in a cumulative total of approximately 68 participants. The study extended over a 15-day duration to facilitate the completion of a comprehensive 30-hour module for both the phases separately. The study employs a mixed-method approach by combining qualitative and quantitative analysis. For the qualitative study, the analysis involved researchers observations and an examination of Achievement tests questionnaires employing the Likert scale. For quantitative analysis, a series of six Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) activities were conducted, encompassing pre and post achievement tests, each of which was assessed based on the study's objectives. The assessment tool utilized is the Communicative Skills Rating Scale (CSRS) by Spitzberg and Cupach (2002), featuring a four-tier evaluation system: self, partner, observer, and external evaluations. Data was collected via Audio-Visual methods for documentation purposes and to cross-reference any overlooked data during the concurrent evaluation process. The collected data underwent a systematic analysis to investigate how applying EI principles can improve conversational speaking skills. The efficacy of the learning module was evaluated based on the proficiency demonstrated in TBLT activities concerning FTPN skills. TBLT activities were administered both prior to and subsequent to the completion of each unit. The assessment of the effectiveness of classroom pedagogy (independent variable) was gauged through the researcher's observations and achievement test questionnaires. Simultaneously, the evaluation of participants' specific conversational skills (dependent variable) was evaluated and analyzed through the course of experimental study using CSRS evaluation scale. Data was analysed using Descriptive statistics through Excel and it was verified using R programming. The research delineates apparent improvements in FTPN within the DIM framework upon the integration of this intervention. Noteworthy enhancements also included a heightened motivation levels across the sample population. Both fast and slow learners exhibited advancements, with a more pronounced improvement observed among the latter group. Additionally, significant strides were observed in non-verbal proficiencies, notably in body posture, and refined listening and responsive non-verbal skills, which was a byproduct of the intervention. Also, a Gender-based analysis revealed an overall positive trend in both male and female students, yet a comparatively greater enhancement was evident among male students in assimilating and applying these interventions. The analysis of data obtained from the CSRS tool shows statistically significant influence on overall English anguage production of the participants in terms of FTPN variables. Moreover. progress tests provided statistically significant evidence for the efficacy of the researcher- developed learning module based on TBLT and DIM approach integrated using EI subsets. Each phase of participants underwent separate experimentation and assessment of their proficiency both before and after the intervention. The pre-achievement test revealed inadequate speaking skills and a lack of basic conversational understanding in both cohorts. Phase 1 (SIOM) showcased noticeable improvement, with a growth in Fluency (39.7%), Presentation (32.1%), Negotiation (37.3%), and Turn-Taking (38.5%) using the CSRS tool. Fast learners improved by an average of 24.1%, while slow learners showed a significant average increase of 51% from their pretest scores. Moreover, there was a 15.7% increase in motivation levels during the intervention. Group 2 (CUL) exhibited improvements in Fluency (36.35%), Presentation (35.8%), Negotiation (43.7%), and Turn-taking (40.5%). Fast learners increased by an average of 26.9%, and slow learners saw an average increase of 49.6% from their pretest scores. Additionally, there was an 18.2% spike in motivation levels during the intervention. Overall, the analysis of CSRS data and progress tests strongly supports the effectiveness of the researcher-developed learning module based on existential principles. It significantly enhanced oral participation and achievement of learning outcomes across both groups. The results through the post-achievement test showed that the researcher-developed learning module had a statistically significant influence on overall English language production in the participants. In educational psychology, Multiple Intelligence has garnered substantial research attention for its application in ESL/EFL and broader school curricula, particularly in teaching English and various subjects. However, the integration of Existential Intelligence within the context of ESP remains unexplored. Its potential significance and applicability within higher education for business students could be substantial. This intelligence category, rooted in philosophy, mysticism, aesthetics, and related domains, aligns closely with the fundamental realms of interest for MBA students. Its introduction could offer profound implications for their learning experience and academic endeavors. The research attempts to contribute to the growing field of English for Specific Field ix for Business students by situating the study within the Pune district of Maharashtra by analysing only FTPN which further offers scope for exploration. -

Advancing the Evaluation of Oral Fluency in English for Specific Classrooms: Harnessing Natural Language Processing Tools for Enhanced Assessment
A crucial component of language learning and teaching is evaluating students' speaking abilities. Natural language processing (NLP) techniques have been employed recently in language assessment to automate the evaluation process and produce more impartial and reliable findings. In this study, we offer a speaking evaluation tool based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) that assesses a learner's speaking ability in real-time using cutting-edge algorithms. The instrument is altered to assess the fundamental facet of speaking skills - Fluency. As a result of the tool's immediate feedback, learners may pinpoint their areas of weakness and focus on honing their language abilities. The usefulness of the instrument was assessed through an intervention with a sample size of 30 students of the post-graduate students of a college in Pune, India. Python libraries, including random and re, were utilized to implement the algorithm. Data preprocessing involved accurate transcription of videos using an online tool and manual checking for corrections. Despite acknowledging limitations, such as potential biases in manually inserted hesitation markers, the study serves as a pivotal step toward automated fluency assessment, presenting exciting prospects for NLP and language education advancements. 2024 IEEE. -

Planned fashion obsolescence in the light of supply chain uncertainty
Fast fashion has popularised the phenomenon of perceived obsolescence whereby customers try to stay in line with the current fashion trends in the market even though the apparel they own are in perfect condition. This has ultimately led the fashion industry to become the second largest polluter in the world. The primary objective of this research paper is to comprehend how the media manoeuvres customers to indulge in fast fashion and how that in turn leads to uncertainty in the supply chain. To understand this, a maximum variation sampling method was adopted which consisted of customers, supply chain partners and marketers. In order to draw a parallel between the variables researched in the past and the present day scenario, an interview schedule was employed. Through the variables selected with the help of Dedoose, a model was created to identify the hurdles faced by suppliers as well as the customer in the fast fashion cycle. The results found that the power to break the fast fashion phenomenon lay in the hands of the media as it is through them that customers' perception can be altered. Precursor to employee engagement AMID knowledge workers
The main objective of this study is to critically analyze the precursor to employee engagement. The research methodology used in this research is descriptive research. In primary data, responses are collected through well framed questionnaires and direct interaction with the employees to selected sample of 550 respondents of information technology organisations in Bengaluru City. The questionnaire consists of 20 questions based on employee engagement precursor. To reduce the dimension of this an exploratory factor analysis was carried out and 3 factors explaining 65.26% of the variance were derived. The 3 precursors identified as professional contentment (Cronbach's alpha 0.940) career development (Cronbach's alpha 0.836) and job enrichment (Cronbach's alpha 0.826). Connect among employee engagement and three key of organisational commitment level - An empirical exploration AMID techs
The main objective of this paper is to gravely examine the link between employee engagement level and affective, continuance and normative commitment level in information technology (IT) organisations in Bangalore city. In primary data, responses are collected through well framed questionnaires and direct interaction with the employees to selected sample of 550 respondents of 10 Information Technology organisations in Bangalore city. The result revealed that employee engagement level explained 32% of the variation in total commitment. Since the P value is less than 0.01, it can be inferred that the linkage between employee engagement level and total commitment is statistically significant. The study identified a strong, positive correlation between employee's engagement level and affective commitment (d = 0.347, p =0.000) and employee's engagement level and normative commitment (d =.265, p =0.000), which were statistically significant. The study also revealed a positive correlation between employee engagement level and continuance commitment, which was not statistically significant (d =.072, p =0.096). The current study adds to the research pointing at employee's engagement level as a promising underlying mechanism to improve employee's organisational commitment level. IAEME Publication. -
Impact of language-based diversity on affective, normative and continuance commitments level amid techs
Language-based diversity is a relatively understudied area within diversity research. The present paper examines the effects of language-based diversity among IT employees on levels of affective, normative and continuance commitments in Bengaluru, Cosmopolitan city. In primary data, responses are collected through well framed questionnaires and direct interaction with the employees to selected sample of 550 respondents of 10 Information Technology organisations in Bengaluru city. The independence of the two characteristics mother tongue and continuance commitment was tested using Cramers V statistic and the asymptotic significance value of 0.000 resulted into the conclusion that the two characteristics are not independent. 51.9% of the employees with mother tongue Tamil have high level continuance commitment. Cramers V statistic was used to test the independence of the two attributes namely, mother tongue and total commitment, and it was found that the asymptotic significance value is 0.000 which is less than 0.05. The Role of the Gut Microbiota in Neurodegenerative Diseases
The human gut has a rich and dynamic microbial population that plays an important role in many physiological activities. This review explores the complex interaction between the gut microbiota and human health, with an emphasis on its effect on neurodegenerative illnesses. The makeup of the gut microbiome and its impact on brain function through the gutbrain axis is highlighted. Dysbiosis, characterized by changes in the gut microbiotas composition, has been linked to the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Huntingtons, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A Bidirectional communication between the stomach and the brain takes place via a variety of channels, including neurotransmitters and metabolites generated by gut bacteria. We investigate the processes through which dysbiosis causes neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and neuronal damage, which drive disease development. Potential therapeutic approaches that focus on the gut microbiota, such as antibiotics, probiotics, prebiotics, and fecal microbiota transplantation, are reviewed, with promising preclinical and clinical findings. Overall, this study emphasizes the relevance of gut microbiota to neurodegenerative illnesses, as well as the need to understand and target the gut-brain axis for future treatment options. 2024 by the authors. -
Workplace diversity and inclusion: Policies and best practices for organisations employing transgender people in India
Policies and best practices are suggested based on the viewpoints of transgender employees, human resources managers in charge of diversity and inclusion, and activists who work for the welfare of transgender people. Fifteen people were interviewed in depth and their responses were analysed to obtain insights into transgender employees' perception of well-being in the workplace, which will help organisations to develop appropriate human resource policies to protect the rights of their transgender employees in the workplace. Exploring the Potential of Bacillus velezensis, an Endophytic Bacteria Isolated from Alternanthera philoxeroides for Plant Growth Promotion and Bioremediation Properties
The current work was done to analyse the bioremediation and plant growth promotion (PGP) traits of endophytic bacteria isolated from Alternanthera philoxeroides from Bellandur Lake, Bangalore, India. Twenty-nine endophytic bacteria were isolated and tested for their PGP traits like indole acetic acid (IAA), ammonia, nitrogen fixation, 1-aminocyclopropane-1- carboxylate (ACC) deaminase production, phosphate solubilization etc. Endophytic bacterium, BEBAphL1 obtained from leaves of A. philoxeroides exhibited significant plant growth promotion properties and the isolate was identified as Bacillus velezensis OQ874364 using 16S rRNA sequencing. The bacterium showed potential IAA, ammonia production, nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, and ACC deaminase production. The results indicate that this endophyte is promising as a growth-promoting inoculant, reducing the reliance on chemical inputs in conventional agricultural practices while enhancing nutrient uptake and stress resilience in plants. B. velezensis exhibited tolerance to high levels of chromium (500 mg/L) and NaCl (15%) and was also able to decolourize Congo red by 70% at 0.005% concentration of dye. Characterization of dye samples pre- and post-bacterial treatment was done using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The findings of the study indicate that B. velezensis shows promise as a plant growth stimulator capable of withstanding heavy metal exposure and breaking down dyes. The Author(s) 2023. -
Insights into the plant growth promotion properties of bacterial endophytes isolated from Alternanthera philoxeroides and Eichhornia crassipes from Bellandur lake, India
The presence of macrophytes such as Alternanthera philoxeroides and Eichhornia crassipes in Bellandur Lake, India, has been observed despite the high pollution levels. Our research aims to explore the potential role of endophytes in promoting the growth of these macrophytes in such heavily contaminated environments. In current study, we isolated 20 endophytic bacteria from various parts of A. philoxeroides (12) and E. crassipes (8) plants, including shoots, roots, leaves, and flowers. We found that a significant proportion of endophytes from A. philoxeroides (42 %) and E. crassipes (25 %) produced more than 100 g/mL of indole acetic acid (IAA). Similarly, the majority of the isolates possessed other plant growth promoting traits like ammonia production, nitrogen fixation, phosphate and potassium solubilization, siderophore production, and ACC deaminase production. Many of these isolates demonstrated extracellular enzyme production and halotolerance properties. We identified Acinetobacter soli ON529869 and Bacillus licheniformis ON506048 as the most effective plant growth promoters among the isolates, which also displayed antifungal properties against Fusarium solani and Cladosporium tenuissimum in vitro. Furthermore, greenhouse trials using these two endophytes revealed their significant plant growth promotion abilities in Amaranthus viridis. The pigment indices were evaluated using CI-710 Leaf Spectrometer. In conclusion, our findings provide compelling evidence for exploring the endophytic microbiomes of macrophytes in polluted areas for sustainable agriculture and bioprospecting of unique traits. Electrochemical Sensing of Formaldehyde in Fish Samples Using a Polydopamine-Modified Stainless Steel Electrode
Electrodeposited polydopamine (pDA) on a stainless steel substrate was developed for electrochemical sensing of formaldehyde in fish samples. Experimental conditions such as influence of scan rate, pH, and concentration were optimized. The pDA modified electrode was sensitive enough to detect formaldehyde at a potential of 0.8 V in an acidic aqueous solution. The lLinear dynamic range for the detection of formaldehyde was in the range of 0.43 to 1.60 ?m under optimal conditions. The detection and quantitation limits were found to be 0.14 and 0.43 ?m respectively. Characterization of interval-valued fuzzy bridges and cutnodes
In this paper, we characterize interval - valued fuzzy bridges and interval-valued fuzzy cutnodes in terms of ? strong arcs. We discuss about the behaviour of arcs in a strongest path of an interval - valued fuzzy graph. An example is provided to prove that strongest paths are not in general related to strong paths in an interval - valued fuzzy graph. On interval valued fuzzy graphs associated with a finite group
We associate a particular type of interval-valued fuzzy graph(IVFG) called interval-valued fuzzy identity graph(IVFIG) with every finite group and study its various properties. We show that IVFIG associated with a finite group is not unique. We also show that every IVFIG associated with a finite group is a strong IVFG. It does not contain any feeble or weak arcs. Further, it is strongly connected. We prove that the IVFIG associated with a finite group in which every element is self inversed is an interval-valued fuzzy tree and the IVFIG of Zn (n is odd) under addition modulo n is the disjoint union of interval-valued fuzzy cycles. 2020 Author(s). -
On the Laplacian energy of interval valued fuzzy graphs
Interval valued fuzzy Laplacian matrix (IVFLM) associated with an interval valued fuzzy graph (IVFG) is studied in this paper. We define spectrum, energy, Laplacian spectrum and Laplacian energy and obtain some bounds for energy and Laplacian energy. 2020 Author(s). -
Interval-Valued Fuzzy Trees and Cycles
Interval-valued fuzzy tree (IVFT) and interval-valued fuzzy cycle (IVFC) are defined in this chapter. We characterize interval-valued fuzzy trees. We also prove that if G is an IVFG whose underlying crisp graph is not a tree then G is an IVFT if and only if G contains only ? strong arcs and weak arcs.
