An Intelligent Hybrid GA-PI Feature Selection Technique for Network Intrusion Detection Systems
The development of Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) has become increasingly important due to the growing threat of cyber-attacks. However, with the vast amount of data generated in networks, handling big data in NIDS has become a major challenge. To address this challenge, this research paper proposes an intelligent hybrid GA-PI algorithm for feature selection and classification tasks in NIDS using support vector machines (SVM). The proposed approach is evaluated using two sub-datasets, Analysis and Normal, and Reconnaissance and Normal, which are generated from the publicly available UNSWNB-15 dataset. In this work, instead of considering all possible attacks, the focus is on two attacks, emphasizing the importance of the feature selection agent in determining the optimal features based on the attack type. The experimental results show that the proposed hybrid feature selection approach outperforms existing methodologies in terms of accuracy and execution time. Moreover, the selection of features can be subjective and dependent on the domain knowledge of the researcher. Additionally, the proposed approach requires computational resources for feature selection and classification tasks, which can be a limitation for resource-constrained systems. To be brief, this research paper presents a promising approach for feature selection and classification tasks in NIDS using an intelligent hybrid GA-PI algorithm. Corporate Social Performance and Firm Location: Empirical Evidence
The study addresses the relationship between firm location and the corporate social performance (CSP) of manufacturing enterprises in India. The study argues that a higher number of multinational corporations (MNCs) at a location leads to higher social performance. An environment and social involvement (ESI) index, based on ISO26000 and National Voluntary Guidelines, has been used to measure the corporate social performance of manufacturing enterprises. The data are obtained through questionnaires from a survey of 121 medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in the national capital region in India and analyzed through one-way ANOVA and linear regression. Results reveal that the presence of MNCs at the location of enterprises is significant to their CSP. The findings of the study aggregate to make original and substantive contributions to the CSP literature on the geography of strategic management. This research is valuable for social responsibility practitioners in developing countries for start-ups and small and medium enterprises who are seeking to enhance their understanding to formulate pragmatic and effective strategies to improve CSP. 2023 IGI Global. Enhancing the job scheduling procedure to develop an efficient cloud environment using near optimal clustering algorithm
In this internet era, cloud computing and there are various problems in the cloud computing, where the consumers as well as the service providers facing in their day to day cloud activities. Job scheduling problem plays a vital role in the cloud environment. To provide an efficient job scheduling environment, it is necessary to perform efficient resource clustering. In this regard, the proposed system, concentrated on the resource clustering methodology by proposing an efficient resource clustering algorithm named identicalness split up periodic node size (ISPNS) in the cloud environment. The algorithm proposed helps in forming resource clusters with the help of cloud environment. The proposed system is compared with the existing systems to justify the performance of the proposed resource clustering algorithm and it produces near optimal solution for the resource clustering problem which helps to provide an efficient job scheduling in cloud environment. Performance analysis of alternating minimization based low complexity detection for MIMO communication system
Several antennas are used for sending and receiving in large MIMO (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) devices and assist in enhanced performances of wireless communication systems. One important component of Large MIMO systems is that MIMO detectors are placed at receiver ends, whose functions are to regain symbols broadcasts from multiple antennas. In this paper, novelAMLCD (Alternating Minimizationbased Low Complexity Detections) method is proposed in which AMs (Alternating Minimizations) are applied in initial stages to detect signals. Soft value generation is used for the second stage to estimate the signals. Finally, the more optimal estimated signal value will be chosen by applying the MPSOs (Modified Particle Swarm Optimizations). The system's functions are evaluated using CPMs (Continuous Phase Modulations) and channels AWGNs (Additive White Gaussian Noises). According to the results obtained, the suggested AMLCD method with modulations of CPMs outperform known methods using QAMs (Quadrature Amplitude Modulations) under multiple antennas in terms of BERs (Bit Error Rates). The AMLCD method also reduces the time complexity and computational complexity compared to the existing methods. 2023 The Author(s). Bioconversion of chicken feather waste into feather hydrolysate by multifaceted keratinolytic Bacillus tropicus LS27 and new insights into its antioxidant and plant growth-promoting properties
Abstract: Keratin, the main structural constituent of feathers, contains a lot of valuable amino acids which are potential bioactive compounds as well. Since conventional methods are not efficient enough to achieve complete removal of chicken feather waste, biological mode of feather degradation is one of the most appropriate ways to utilize feathers, thereby reducing wastes as well as generating value-added products from feathers. This study was focussed on valorizing chicken feather into feather hydrolysate (FH) containing bioactive compounds for plant growth promotion. Keratinolytic bacteria capable of degrading chicken feathers were isolated from the poultry waste dumping site of Russell Market, Shivajinagar, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The isolated bacteria was identified as Bacillus tropicus LS 27. A minimal media with chicken feather as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen was prepared and inoculated with Bacillus tropicus LS 27 [5% (v/v)]. Degradation of keratin protein by bacteria caused the solubilization of amino acids which was confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis where an appreciable amount of amino acids like cysteine, valine, isoleucine, proline, lysine, methionine, and phenylalanine was detected. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis of hydrolysed chicken feathers showed C=0 stretching, S-H bond stretching, and formation of carboxylic acid groups indicating effective degradation of chicken feathers. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed the degradation pattern of feathers showing complete degradation of barbs and barbules with a portion of rachis remaining. Feather hydrolysate was further explored for its antioxidant activity using DPPH scavenging assay, and the value was found to be 1.5 mg/mL. The bacterial cells when screened for heavy metal tolerance showed significant metal tolerance to lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr). Since Bacillus tropicus LS27 showed indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), siderophore, and ammonia production, the prepared feather hydrolysate along with the bacterial cells were used as soil amendment for plant growth studies over Spinacia oleracea L. The study revealed that plants supplemented with 20% (v/v) FH showed elevated plant growth, therefore proving to be optimum for the support of plant growth. Hope, Belief in Just World and Trust in Government: An Interaction Amidst Covid-19 Pandemic in India
The outbreak of COVID 19 has brought about changes in all spheres of human life. In the present times of pandemic, human life has suffered not only from physical stresses but also encountered and endured several mental stresses. In recent times people adopted several measures to bring positivity to their life. The present study explores the relationship between- Hope, Belief in Just World, Covid ?19, and Trust in the Government in India, during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Data was collected online from young adults, via Google forms, using the tools- Adult Hope scale, Covid Anxiety scale, Belief in Just world scale, and Trust in Government. Results showed a significant correlation between the three variables. Hope, Belief in Just World, and Trust in government. Regression analysis found these three variables to significantly impact Covid anxiety. Further, Belief in Just World was found to mediate the relationship between Hope and Covid anxiety. During challenging times, it is important to boost mental health in the right direction. Implications have been further discussed in the article. The Author(s) 2023. -

Deep vs. Shallow: A Comparative Study of Machine Learning and Deep Learning Approaches for Fake Health News Detection
Internet explosion and penetration have amplified the fake news problem that existed even before Internet penetration. This becomes more of a concern, if the news is health-related. To address this issue, this research proposes Content Based Models (CBM) and Feature Based Models (FBM). The difference between the two models lies in the input provided. The CBM only takes news content as the input, whereas the FBM along with the content also takes two readability features as the input. Under each category, the performance of five traditional machine learning techniques: - Decision Tree, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, AdaBoost-Decision Tree and AdaBoost-Random Forest is compared with two hybrid Deep Learning approaches, namely CNN-LSTM and CNN-BiLSTM. The Fake News Healthcare dataset comprising 9581 articles was utilized for the study. Easy Data Augmentation technique is used to balance this highly imbalanced dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that Feature Based Models perform better than Content Based Models. Among the proposed FBM, the Hybrid CNN - LSTM model had a F1 score of 97.09% and AdaBoost-Random Forest had a F1 Score of 98.9%. Thus, Adaboost-Random Forest under FBM is the best-performing model for the classification of fake news. 2013 IEEE. -
Influence of agricultural wastes on larval growth phases of the black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae): An integrated approach
Insects are an effective tool for converting nutrients in agricultural by-products into protein-rich biomass and compost. Black soldier fly (BSF) (Hermetia illucens) larvae are currently one of the insect species widely used as a protein source in aquafeed globally. Although much effort has been spent on the use of BSF in aquafeed, there is not much information on the biology of the insect, especially with the morphology of the BSF. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of various organic wastes, such as fruit wastes (FW) and vegetable wastes (VW), on different growth phases of BSF larva (BSFL), using morphometric and scanning electron microscopic examinations, and the composition of the compost produced, as well as a method for upscaling of larval production of BSFL. Faster growth was observed in BSFL fed with VW substrate (40 days) compared to the FW (46 days). Based on the morphometric measurements such as length, larval head length, total length etc., five larval stages, prepupal and pupal stage of BSFL were differentiated and described. In addition, SEM imaging of BSF mouth parts found that the mouth morphology of the BSF larvae and prepupal stage differed, and the BSF prepupa had reduced mouthparts. Also, the mandibular-maxillary complex was well developed than the BSF prepupa. BSFL larvae have proven to convert fruit and vegetable waste into high-quality residue fertilizer for the soil. The BSF compost showed optimum nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium and sulphur content. This research establishes a baseline knowledge and guidance on the BSF-rearing facilities. Author (s). Psychometric Properties of the Moral Injury Symptom Scale Among Indian Healthcare Professionals
The spread of the novel coronavirus has led to a rise in morally conflicting situations for healthcare professionals. Doctors and nurses who were serving as frontline workers, require special attention to alleviate the long-lasting impact of the potentially morally injurious events. The current study aims to validate the Moral Injury Symptom Scale-Healthcare Professionals (MISS-HP) among Indian healthcare workers. The 10-item MISS was administered to 150 doctors and 150 nurses using the purposive sampling method. Firstly, reliability was assessed using internal consistency measure. Secondly, item discrimination index was assessed by calculating the point biserial correlation for each item. Cronbach alpha indicated high internal consistency (0.77). The point biserial correlation value for each item indicated good discrimination. Finally, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed to replicate the factor structure. CFA results suggested a good fit to the data. In conclusion, MISS-HP is a reliable and valid tool to assess moral injury among Indian healthcare professionals in India. 2023 Hibino et al. -
Bracing up for financial inclusivity: the CabDost way
Learning outcomes: The learning outcomes of this study are as follows: 1. understand the role of financial inclusivity in the sustainable development of a nation; 2. examine the concept of social entrepreneurship and identify the skills needed to be a social entrepreneur; 3. analyze the opportunities and challenges faced by social entrepreneurs, especially in an emerging economy; and 4. assess the feasible options with respect to upscaling and expansion. Case overview/synopsis: Yamuna Sastry, a young woman from a traditional Indian family, had set out to achieve her dream of financial inclusivity by helping the underprivileged in her country gain financial independence and credibility. When she was approached by a cab driver to file tax returns for him, a new venture took shape in her mind, and along with a partner, CabDost, a socially driven financial advisory start-up was created to provide financial advisory services exclusively for cab drivers. CabDost had been instrumental in making over 15,000 cab drivers financially literate, instilling in them a culture of compliance, getting them tax refunds and enabling the Indian Government recover eight crores in taxes. The success of financial inclusivity among cab drivers inspired CabDost to extend its financial services to truck drivers, auto drivers, housekeeping staff and other contractual workforce. The company found it challenging to address the demands of the increasing customer base with its available technical resources. The absence of an in-house tech team and the need for an all-in-one tech platform to provide a wide variety of financial services induced CabDost to explore other options. Dvara Money, a neo bank offering financial services, approached CabDost with a merger proposal. Though it was a lucrative offer, the founding members were apprehensive as they knew that most of the mergers failed because of myriad reasons. They were contemplating on their next move as they were in a dilemma about whether to develop a technical team in-house or to go ahead with the merger. Complexity academic level: The case can be taught to business management students as a part of the introductory course on entrepreneurship or social entrepreneurship. The case can be used specifically to make the students understand the role of financial inclusivity in the sustainable development of a nation, the concept of social entrepreneurship, the journey of social entrepreneurs in the financial inclusivity space, right from ideation to execution, the challenges faced in the bargain, survival mechanisms adopted and the various options available for further growth and expansion. Sum Signed Graphs, Parity Signed Graphs and Cordial Graphs
Signed graphs are graphs with every edge is signed either positive or negative. Given an n vertex graph, the vertices are bijectively labelled from 1 to n. A signed graph is a sum signed graph if and only if every edge is signed negative whenever the sum of the vertex labels exceeds n and every edge is signed positive whenever the sum of the vertex labels does not exceed n. For a parity signed graph, an edge receives a negative sign, if the end vertices are of opposite parity and a positive sign otherwise. Cordial signed graphs are the ones with the difference between the total number of negative edges and the positive ones is at most 1. We discuss the connection between sum signed labeling with parity signed labeling and cordial labeling. Integrated fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS as innovative student selection methodology at institutions of higher learning
BACKGROUND: The selection of students at academic institutions has been a challenging affair given multiple criteria that need to be considered by the institution. Additionally, multiple evaluators and decision makers are involved in the student selection process, rendering it inconsistent. The complexity and subjectiveness in such decisions making requires new and innovative approach in order to be more systematic and transparent. OBJECTIVE: This paper presents an innovative methodology for student selection for admission into an Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) using Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). Drawing on the success of using these methods in other fields, this study applies the technique and principles on student selection process. METHOD: Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP) is used in determining the weights of the criteria by the decision makers which avoids the vagueness and inconsistencies in decision making process and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method ranks finds out the best alternative solution for student selection by calculating the relative closeness from the positive ideal solution. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: This research finds using the hybrid method is effective in student selection for IHL and makes the process efficient and bias-free. Does Cultural Intelligence & Emotional Intelligence Differ by Region in India? A Comparative Study; [??????????? ?? ?????????? ? ????????????? ?????????????? ? ???????? ?????? ????????????? ????????????]
Students from various parts of India periodically migrate to universities for academic and professional reasons. They reflect various cultural diversities and have to overcome obstacles like intergroup prejudice and acculturative stress. Although these factors can differ by region, the response tendency may be influenced by their respective cultural intelligence/quotient (CQ) and emotional intelligence/quotient (EQ). The comparisons of CQ and EQ across students from significant regions of India, however, have never been recorded in a prior study. This study attempted to examine the level of CQ and EQ among students who were enrolled in educational institutions in Kalaburagi City, who belong to three major regions of India (North, South-East, and South-West). A total of 385 students between the ages of 18 and 31 (mean age: 20.56; standard deviation: 2.633) were recruited for the study. Surprisingly, there were significant geographical disparities in the use of emotions and metacognitive CQ. Compared to students from the other two regions, students from the south-eastern area performed better while using emotional EQ and scored less while using meta-cognitive CQ. The study deduced the plausible factors and potential explanations for CQ EQ disparities and inter-regional acceptability among students from three major regions, which may be used to develop a CQ & EQ training program for usage across Indias educational system 2023, Cultural-Historical Psychology.All Rights Reserved. -
Empirical analysis of borrowers' motivation to use online peer-to-peer lending platforms in India
Established on the technology acceptance model, this paper puts forward a model to understand the borrowers' motivation to use (MU) peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms. Data from 362 Indian users were employed to test the research model by applying structural equation modelling. The results show that perceived intention, ease of use, and usefulness have significant relation in motivating borrowers to use P2P lending platforms. However, borrowers' perceptions of trust had an insignificant impact on MU the P2P lending platform. When compared to the individual technology acceptance model, the integrated model provides further explanation regarding the motivation of borrowers to use P2P lending platforms. The study contributes to the theoretical area by identifying the factors that motivate borrowers to use P2P lending platforms for their short-term financial requirements, from a unified perspective. Comprehensive Phytochemical, Anti-Oxidant and GC-MS Analysis of Strobilanthes jomyi P. Biju, Josekutty, Rekha & J.R.I.Wood
Background and Objective: Plant-based medication is one of the most established practices in the Indian medical field. Earlier, raw parts of plants were directly used to treat many health conditions. Later, the most valuable part was identified, separated the chemical compounds and treated various diseases. The plant Strobilanthes jomyi belongs to the family Acanthaceae, commonly called Elathumpadi. The study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical, mineral composition, phytochemical, anti-oxidant and GC-MS analysis of leaves stem and root of S. jomyi. Materials and Methods: Different vegetative parts of S. jomyi were extracted with the Soxhlet extraction method by using methanol as solvent. Physicochemical, phytochemical, mineral composition, anti-oxidant and GC-MS analyses were evaluated by different standard protocols. Results: The phytochemical analysis revealed that leaves contained more phenolic (87.40.44 mg gG1 of GAE), flavonoid (66.230.53 mg gG1 equivalent of QE), carbohydrate (44.71.28 mg gG1 of fresh weight), protein (17.70.76 mg gG1 of fresh weight), proline (46.80.15 mg gG1 of fresh weight) and chlorophyll (46.80.15 mg gG1 of fresh weight) content than the root and stem of methanolic extract. The non-enzymatic anti-oxidant assays of the methanolic extract showed the presence of higher anti-oxidant activities in leaves, followed by root and stem. The GC-MS study of the root, stem and leaves revealed medicinally important bioactive compounds like 2,4-di-tert-butyl phenol, phytol, squalene, phenol, neophytadiene and lupeol. Conclusion: Strobilanthes jomyi can be used as an alternative source of the ayurvedic system of medicine based on its phytochemical and antioxidant activity. 2023. -
Transformational educational leaders inspire school educators commitment
Introduction: Transformational school leaders play an important role in promoting educational innovation and restructuring by creating a vision for the future, building a culture of collaboration, and empowering others to become leaders themselves. Through their leadership style, they inspire and motivate others to work towards a common goal, leading to positive change and growth within the educational system. The aim of this study is to measure the impact of transformational leadership on various types of commitment that school teachers have in Bengaluru, India. Methods: A survey was conducted using standardised instruments to measure the leadership style of principals and personal commitment of teachers. The data was collected from 1,173 school teachers through a questionnaire and analysed using SPSS V23 statistical software. Results: The study found that transformational leadership had a significant impact on the different types of commitment that teachers possess in school education. The three domains of commitment - commitment towards the institution, student development, and self-development - were positively influenced by transformational leadership. Discussion: Transformational school leaders play an important role in promoting educational innovation and restructuring by creating a vision for the future, building a culture of collaboration, and empowering others to become leaders themselves. This study provides evidence that transformational leadership has a positive impact on different types of commitment among school teachers in Bengaluru, India. Leaders of school management are advised to take into account the three domains of commitment of their teachers to facilitate organisational learning through more integrative methods. EFFECT OF ANIMAL-ASSISTED THERAPY ON DEPRESSION, MEMORY, ATTENTION, AND EMOTION REGULATION
Introduction: The mere presence of a dog in a therapeutic setup is known to bring about more positive outcomes when incorporated in therapy, dogs can bring about multifarious benefits which are not entirely tapped upon. Aim: This research aimed to study the effect of animal-assisted therapy (AAT), with therapy dogs, on depressive symptoms, emotional regulation, memory and attention of individuals. Method: A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental research design was used. Psychology Experiment Building Language (PEBL) for memory and attention, Difficulty in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) were used for pre and post-testing 1 week before and post the intervention. Results: The findings reveal a positive impact of AAT on the given domains of memory, attention, emotion regulation and depressive symptoms, in the experimental group. No significant changes were obtained for the control group. Discussion: The results help validate the module of AAT to improve an individuals cognitive functioning and alleviate depressive and emotional dysregulations. Will Users Continue Using Banking Chatbots? The Moderating Role of Perceived Risk
AI-powered chatbots have become game-changers for the financial industry. They enable banks to boost customer engagement and improve operational efficiency by lowering the traditional cost of customer support. This study analyses the impact of perceived service quality dimensions on user confirmation, satisfaction and use continuance. The present study also analyses the moderating effect of perceived risk on the relationship between user confirmation, satisfaction and chatbots use continuance. A total of 447 customers, all residing in the Indian city of Bengaluru and having recently used banking chatbot services, were surveyed. Partial least squares structural equation modelling is used to examine the relationships between the variables used in the study. Findings from the study show that all five chatbot service quality dimensions (reliability, interactivity, assurance, responsiveness and understandability) significantly impact the users post-use confirmation, influencing their satisfaction and continuance behaviour. Perceived risk negatively moderates the relationship between user confirmation and user satisfaction. Chatbot service developers and e-service providers can leverage these findings to understand user expectations from chatbots.
