Knowledge, Attitude, and Stigma Among Adolescents: Effect of Mental Health Awareness and Destigmatisation (MHAD) Program
Background: Stigma against mental health problems is a common issue for adolescents aged 1418 years. However, comprehensive programs that simultaneously address awareness and stigma reduction tailored to the specific needs of this age group are lacking. Method: This study investigated the effectiveness of the Mental Health Awareness and Destigmatisation Program (MHAD) in reducing stigma and improving knowledge and attitudes towards peers with mental health problems. A quasi-experimental pre-post design was employed among adolescents aged 1418 years from an educational institution in Bangalore. After excluding those with high baseline mental health symptoms (PSC-17 > 20), a preassessment was conducted on adolescents' knowledge, attitude, and stigma (n = 52) using the Mental Health Knowledge Schedule, Self-structured Case Vignettes, and Peer Mental Health Stigmatization Scale. After completing the 6-week program, three participants were excluded from the post-assessment, as their attendance was less than 50%. A total of 49 (mean age = 16 years) adolescents were included in the post-assessment. Results: The paired sample t-test revealed significant improvements in all stigma scores. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated a significant improvement in Recognition of Mental Illness scores. Conclusion: Findings showed that MHAD, an education-based program, was effective in reducing adolescents' stigma towards peers with mental health problems and improving their overall recognition of mental health symptoms. Research across larger adolescent populations is essential to enhance these interventions' long-term impact and sustainability. By closely monitoring and expanding research efforts, we can gain deeper insights into how these programs foster self-awareness, a crucial factor in recognizing mental health needs, challenging stigma, and promoting help-seeking behaviors among adolescents. 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC. -
Knowledge, preparedness, and resilience related to end of life decision making among family caregivers of ICU patients
End-of-Life decision making is the process that is treating team, patients, and patients??? families go through when considering what treatments will or will not be used to treat a life-threatening illness. In India, End-of-Life Care is a new phenomenon and rarely investigated. The religious and societal attitudes and an absence of education in medical ethics can be seen as reasons for the underdevelopment of End-of-Life Care field. It seems that social workers, particularly who assist patients in Intensive care unit treatment have an important role to play in this regard. Social workers deliver assistance to the critically ill person and their family members as they get admission to the Intensive care unit, enhancing the conversation among treating group, patients and family members. The objective of this study is to assess the knowledge, preparedness and resilience among family caregivers related to End-of-Life decision making. This study utilizes a descriptive research design and purposive sampling method. The study includes 71 first degree relatives of patients who are significantly involved in caring of the patient and related to decision making. All the participants had their family members admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of St. John???s Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru. This study found that there is minimal knowledge among family caregivers and they had no high level of preparedness. There is ethical concern along with finance and they seem to be confused about the decisions taken. Due to lack of awareness among the family caregivers, they surrender the patient to the treating team. Religious conflict is another aspect which is an obstacle to family caregivers for an End-of-Life decision making. The study also found that as the duration of Intensive Care Unit hospitalization increases the resilience among family caregiver???s decreases. It is important that Medical Social workers identify ways to improve End-of-Life care process through interventions. This can be achieved through training in Master of Social Work programs and by educating social workers. The study concludes that there is an immense gap between the family caregivers and the patient with regard to their knowledge on End-of-Life decision making. Hence, this study highlights the importance of Medical Social Worker in Intensive Care Unit to facilitate patient autonomy and the family caregivers??? decisions on the patient. -
KnowSOntoWSR: Web Service Recommendation System Using Semantically Driven QoS Ontology-Based Knowledge-Centred Paradigm
Web services have significantly expanded and become a key enabling technology for online data, application and resource sharing. Designing new methods for efficient and reliable web service recommendation has been of tremendous importance with the growing usage and prominence of web services. It would be ideal for a system to suggest online services that are in line with consumers preferences without requesting specific query information from them. Quality of Service (QoS) is vital for characterising non-functional aspects of Web services as they become more prevalent and widely used on the World Wide Web. The KnowSOntoWSR framework, which is built on a knowledge-driven and semantically inclined model that adheres to QoS ontology, is proposed in this research. AWS and WebSphere are employed as knowledge tags, and the powerful machine learning classifier XGBoost is applied. The features and recommendations are computed using the Twitter semantic similarity. The proposed framework outperforms the baseline models estimates with an accuracy of 95.94% and average F-measure of 95.93%. 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. -
Kochi Water Metro: Revisiting the Economy-Ecology Paradox of Water Transportation
Kochi, a prominent port city on the southwest coast of Kerala, India, with its waterways, has shaped the geographical and socio-cultural space, aligning them with the politics of the land-water interaction. Popular conceptions of transport have been land-oriented, but with water as the centre, our understanding of day-to-day lived realities changes, demanding new vocabulary. The Kochi Water Metros advent and success are the topics under discussion. Moving from land metro to water metro signals changes in our reading of travel, ecology, energy conservation, direction, temporality, socio-cultural and economic modalities. The article is a project-based study drawing data from interviews, documents, audio-visual images and real-time information to trace and position Kochis Water Metro. With economic and environmental sustainability as the driving forces, the transportation cum tourism aspects of the Water Metro requires an intersectional reading of hydrography, oceanic materialities, and maritime practices. Reading these against the larger context of capitalism and Blue Humanities helps explore how hydrocapitalism becomes the new discourse that positions the ecology-economy paradox. Not only does the Water Metro realign travel and geospatial mapping, but it also begets new directions in maritime developments and conservation within Kochis tourism ventures. 2024 selection and editorial matter, Dr. Sreedevi Santhosh, Dr. Samjaila T. Koppa Archaeological Research Project (KARP): Exclusive Iron Age landscapes in the Western Ghats, India
Koppa Archaeological Research Project (KARP) conducted systematic transect surveys and excavations in the Coorg plateau at the upper reaches of river Kaveri in the Western Ghats, Karnataka. The archaeological record of the study area is exclusively an Iron Age landscape, as we did not find any other prehistoric or early historic sites. We focused on studying thirty-nine Iron Age (1200 BCE300 BCE) sites of two categories, habitation and megaliths, and we present here our preliminary observations addressing to site findings, their landscapes and settlement patterns. We then consider the geographical and climatic implications for understanding the formation of their economy and politics. We argue that sites in the Western Ghats did not differ significantly from the temporal and cultural material typologies of contemporary Iron Age sites in the semi-arid or savannah conditions of Deccan plateau. Yet the adaption of Iron Age communities to Western Ghats climate which is characterized by high rainfall, lush tropical forests, fallow lands and diverse faunal ecology should have had distinct implications for the development of their economy and politics. 2019 Elsevier Ltd -

L-arginine functionalized NiFe?O? nanoparticles: synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial activity, and biocompatibility evaluation in a zebrafish model
NiFe?O? nanoparticles and L-argininefunctionalized NiFe?O? (NiFe?O4LA) were synthesized, characterized, and evaluated for antimicrobial performance and in vivo biocompatibility in a zebrafish embryo model. The XRD and HRTEM studies confirmed the formation of single-phase cubic spinel NiFe?O? with average crystallite size ? 2030nm. Surface modification with LA preserved the spinel structure while reducing crystallinity and hydrodynamic size 128.7nm. FTIR and XPS verified successful surface functionalization. UV vis measurements showed band-gap narrowing after La conjugation (Eg ? 3.23 ? 3.15eV). NiFe?O?LA exhibited enhanced antimicrobial activity compared with bare NiFe?O? against MRSA and C. albicans an effect attributed to enhanced surface interaction and ROS-mediated oxidative damage. The MIC values of C. albicans is found to 1200g/mL while in the case MRSA is about 900g/mL. The ROS assays with histidine modulation supported a role for redox activity in antimicrobial action. In vivo zebrafish embryo assays showed minimal developmental toxicity at tested exposures with better viability for the LA coated material. L(t, 1)-colouring of graphs
One of the most famous applications of Graph Theory is in the field of Channel Assignment Problems. There are varieties of graph colouring concepts that are used for different requirements of frequency assignments in communication channels. We introduce here L(t, 1)-colouring of graphs. This has its foundation in T-colouring and L(p, q)-colouring. For a given finite set T including zero, an L(t, 1)-colouring of a graph G is an assignment of non-negative integers to the vertices of G such that the difference between the colours of adjacent vertices must not belong to the set T and the colours of vertices that are at distance two must be distinct. The variable t in L(t, 1) denotes the elements of the set T. For a graph G, the L(t, 1)-span of G is the minimum of the highest colour used to colour the vertices of a graph out of all the possible L(t, 1)-colourings. It is denoted by ?t,1(G). We study some properties of L(t, 1)-colouring. We also find upper bounds of ?t,1(G) of stars and multipartite graphs. I??k University, Department of Mathematics, 2022; all rights reserved. -
Label free electrochemical detection of stress hormone cortisol using sulphur doped graphitic carbon nitride on carbon fiber paper electrode
Sulphur doped graphitic carbon nitride (SGCN) was effectively prepared and comprehensively described. A straightforward synthetic process based on thermal condensation was reported for the synthesis of SGCN using thiourea as a precursor. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry were used to evaluate the electrochemical performance of cortisol. SGCN sheets were used to boost the electro-catalytic activity, exhibiting very exceptional electrochemical behaviour towards cortisol. As a result, we obtained a broad linear response range of 0.1-100 ?M, as well as a comparatively low detection limit (15.8 10?8 M). Furthermore, the fabricated SGCN/CFP electrode shows excellent selectivity in the presence of a large number of possible interfering species. SGCN comprises (C with N and S) heteroatoms, which most likely would have led to a better current response towards cortisol detection. Furthermore, the structural defects that generate additional active sites on the surface of SGCN may enhance the quick electron transfer that occurs during the oxidation of cortisol. 2022 The Royal Society of Chemistry. -

Label Informativeness-Based Minority Oversampling in Graphs (LIMO)
Class imbalance is a pervasive issue in many realworld datasets, particularly in graph-structured data, where certain classes are significantly underrepresented. This imbalance can severely impact the performance of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), leading to biased learning or over-fitting. The existing oversampling techniques often overlook the intrinsic properties of graphs, such as Label Informativeness (LI), which measures the amount of information a neighbor's label provides about a node's label. To address this, we propose Label Informativenessbased Minority Oversampling (LIMO), a novel algorithm that strategically oversamples minority class nodes by augmenting edges to maximize LI. This technique generates a balanced, synthetic graph that enhances GNN performance without significantly increasing data volume. Our theoretical analysis shows that the effectiveness of GNNs is directly proportional to label informativeness, with mutual information as a mediator. Additionally, we provide insights into how variations in the number of inter-class edges influence the LI by analyzing its derivative. Experimental results on various homophilous and heterophilous benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of LIMO in improving the performance of node classification for different imbalance ratios, with particularly significant improvements observed in heterophilous graph datasets. Label-Based Feature Classification Model for Extracting Information with Dynamic Load Balancing
Efficient extraction of information from various sources is very tedious. Achieving this requires very sophisticated feature classification model and ability of the system to adapt to changing environments of data and its random distributions with an efficient use of computational resources. Label-based feature classification model (LFCM) with dynamic load balancing is proposed to address an efficient model to extract information in data set. This technique is effective in data analysis to discover the new feature set. Label approach incorporates unique label concept and it avoids any data duplication using labels. Each data sample is assigned to only one label to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of the retrieval process. Based on the data relevancy and specific features that can be extracted using proposed algorithm, classification model and semantic representation of data in vector form minimizes the data loss, and dimensionality reduction plays a vital role in building an efficient model. Various graphs and results obtained from the experiments show an improvement of information extraction using this proposed labeled LFCM approach. This approach brings lots of real time challenges that are handled to bring accuracy factor as the main focus in this proposed system. Both classification and extraction uses different model to obtain the intended results. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024. -
Labelling of human breast cancer cells with PEG/biotin encapsulated B-type Y2O3: Eu nanophosphors for fluorescence detection
The development of non-toxic quantum dots (QDs) for fluorescence labelling of cancer cells can bring significant advancements in the disease detection. Such findings can effectively replace the conventional toxic fluorescent probes by virtue of its tunable optical characteristics. Through this work, we present the development of an efficient fluorescent probe based on B-type Y2O3: Eu QDs for labelling MCF 7 cell lines. The QDs surface was encapsulated by poly ethylene glycol (PEG) along with tumour targeting ligand, biotin. The luminescence capability of the QDs were established through photoluminescence experiments. The QDs were tested to be non-toxic through MTT assay. Fluorescence detection experiments on MCF 7 cells using the nanophosphor established the material's potential to serve as an efficient probe for cancer cell detection. 2024 Elsevier B.V. -

Labour migration, the Arabian Gulf, and the expanding territorial imagination in Malayalam cinema
Mainstream Malayalam cinema of the south Indian state of Kerala has, for the most part, attempted to sidestep the significance of Gulf migration to the regions development. Part of the reason for this historical neglect has been the prevalence of a particular hegemonic vantage point within the films that has centralized the narratives of the landed elites in Kerala, eliding the various historically marginalized communities within the state. This article engages with a recent development within the film industry. It examines how Gulf migration has shaped the affective dimensions and expanding territorial imagination of the New Malayalam Cinema, which has positioned labour migration as one of its central thematic concerns. It is argued that this shift was made possible by the displacement of the universalized territorial imagination of the landed elites in the state that dominated its film industry for most of its history. Subsequently, this article will closely study how director Zakariya places his debut film Sudani from Nigeria (2018) within this new cinematic category, and will demonstrate how he portrays the region of rural Malappuram in north Kerala as a nexus of various migrant experiences, crucially invoking an underlying older order of cosmopolitanism prevalent in the region, fuelled partly by the history of Gulf migration and partly by a tradition and history of migration and transnationalism that predates the formation of the Indian state. Labour Rights in the Wake of the WTO
One of the most contentious issues surrounding globalization includes trade and labours rights. In the real world, trade and labour circumstances have an impact on one another. Trading nations should be subject to significant labour standards. It was believed that enforcing labour standards via trade agreements helps to improve the working conditions and income in poor countries, and minimize wage inequalities between rich and poor countries. The World Trade Organizations (WTOs) establishment has resulted in the liberalization of trade and investment. Transnational corporations (TNCs) have become more economically powerful than many countries around the world in todays era of globalization and free trade. These powerful TNCs are violating labour rights and are not accountable for that because of the lack of a legal framework. This calls for a look at issues that arise at the interface of international trade and labour standards, including a brief historical review of labour rights and the, as well as the impact of TNCs on labours and accountability. 2023 Kluwer Law International BV, The Netherlands
