Variations in the l-dopa content, phytochemical constituents and antioxidant activity of different germlines of mucuna pruriens (l.) dc.
In this study a 'wonder plant' Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC., which is commercially important medicinal plant of the Fabaceae family known for its treatment in Central Nervous System disorders like Dementia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc. have been selected. Different germplasms have been collected to analyze the phytochemical variations between them and quantify the L-DOPA in root, stem, leaves and seeds of all the five germlines using HPLC. Along with the biochemical assays, antioxidant activity by DPPH, phosphomolybdneum method, the metal chelating and reductive potential activity of all the germplasms were studied. All parts of the plant have shown the presence of L-DOPA but, seeds have the highest quantity followed by the roots, stem and leaves. Arka Shubra seeds showed high L-DOPA content (51.9 mg/g) while the other germplasms showed L-DOPA ranging from 43-45 mg/g. Highest content of carbohydrates (258.8 mg/g) and phenolics (157.0 mg/g) was seen in the seeds of Arka Aswini. While the seeds and leaves of Arka Charaka showed high protein (332.2 mg/g) and flavonoid (10.2 mg/g) content, respectively. High proline (1.74 mg/g) was observed in the seeds of Arka Shubra. Antioxidant studies revealed that Arka Charaka and Arka Daksha to be having high reductive power and free radical scavenging activity by phosphomolybdate method while high metal chelating activity was observed in Arka Aswini (88.7%) and high antioxidant activity by DPPH method was seen in Arka Shubra (86.5%). 2021 Chemical Publishing Co.. VERTEX INDUCED 2-EDGE COLORING AND VERTEX INCIDENT 2-EDGE COLORING OF SOME GRAPH PRODUCTS
Let G = (V, E) be a simple connected graph with vertex set V and edge set E. The vertex induced 2-edge coloring number ?vi2? (G) is the maximum number of colors used in coloring the edges of a graph G such that for each vertex v ? V, at most two edges in the induced subgraph ?N[v]?, generated by the closed neighborhood N[v], receive different colors. The vertex incident 2-edge coloring number ?vin2? (G) of graph G is the maximum number of colors required to color the edges of G such that at most two edges incident to a vertex v in G receive different colors. In this paper, the vertex induced 2-edge coloring number and vertex incident 2-edge coloring number of some graph products such as Cartesian product and strong product are discussed. Then the vertex induced k-edge coloring number ? vik(G) of a simple connected graph G = (V,E) is the highest number of colors needed to color the edges of a graph G such that the edges of the subgraph induced by the closed neighborhood N[v] of the vertex v ? V (G) receives not more than k colors. The vertex incident k-edge coloring number ? vink(G) of a simple connected graph G = (V,E) is the highest number of colors required to color the edges of a graph G such that the edges incident to a vertex v in graph G receives not more than k colors. The vertex induced 2-edge coloring number ?vi2?(G) of a graph G is the highest number of colors that can occur in an edge coloring of a graph G such that not more than two colors can be used to color the edges in the induced subgraph (N[v]) generated by the closed neighborhood N[v] of a vertex v in V (G). The vertex induced 2-edge coloring sum of a graph G denoted as vi2?(G), is the greatest sum among all the vertex induced 2-edge coloring of a graph G which concedes ?vi2?(G) colors. The vertex incident 2-edge coloring number of a graph G is the highest number of colors required to color the edges of a graph G such that not more than two colors can be ceded to the edges incident at the vertex v of G. The vertex incident 2-edge coloring sum of a graph G denoted as vi2?(G), is the maximum sum among all the vertex incident 2-edge coloring of graph G which receives maximum ?vin2?(G) colors. In this paper, we initiate a study on the vertex induced 2-edge coloring sum and vertex incident 2-edge coloring sum concepts and apply the same to some graph classes. Vicarious Trauma in Law Students: Role of Gender, Personality, and Social Support
Law student trainees are exposed to trauma-related work which puts them at higher risk of being adversely affected by it. Since they are not directly related to the event, their distress goes unnoticed. The repetitive account of traumatic instances leads to traumatization of their own which is referred to as vicarious traumatization. The purpose of this paper was to delve into the degree to which the role of gender, personality, and social support impact law students vulnerability to vicarious trauma. For the current research, exploratory design was utilized. All one hundred and twenty participants were selected using purposive sampling. Self-report measures were employed to investigate social support, personality traits, and vicarious trauma in sixty male and sixty female law students. The results revealed that female law students and those law students who are high on Neuroticism and low on Extraversion are more vulnerable to experiencing vicarious trauma. Videoconferencing-delivered psychological intervention for the treatment of COVID-19 related psychological distress in University students: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial in India
Background: The mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been profound. This paper outlines the study protocol for a trial that tests the efficacy of a brief group-based psychological intervention (Coping with COVID; CWC), relative to Supportive Counselling, to reduce distress associated with COVID-19 in a young adult population in Bangalore, India. Methods: A single-blind, parallel, randomized controlled trial will be carried out via video conferencing in a small group format. Following informed consent, adults that screen positive for levels of psychological distress (Kessler 10 (K-10 score ? 20) and have access to a videoconferencing platform will be randomised to an adapted version of CWC (n = 90) or Supportive Counselling (SC) (n = 90). The primary outcome will be reduction in psychological distress including anxiety and depression at 2-months post treatment. Secondary outcomes include worry, positive wellbeing, and stress in relation to COVID-19. Discussion: This treatment trial will assess whether CWC will result in reduced distress relative to Supportive Counselling in a young adult population in Bangalore, India. This study will yield important insights into the role of nonspecific factors versus the interventions components in impacting COVID-19 related distress. Trial registration: This trial was prospectively registered on the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12621001064897). Ethics and dissemination: Ethics approval has been obtained from the participating institution, CHRIST University in Bangalore. Vigilance and surveillance reinforced using mathematical approaches in object tracking techniques
Visual tracking is crucial to the study of object recognition and has been utilized in a variety of realistic settings, such as robotics, traffic monitoring, self-driving automobiles, forensics, and more. This research concentrates on techniques for counting the total number of individuals entering or exiting a space under the watchful eye of a camera. The techniques described here can detect the number of persons in a scene, both for a single individual and for many passers in front of the camera. With the aid of surveillance that use the centroid concept, an effective solution has been devised for monitoring. Secondly, in this study, object tracking methods utilising deep learning are also reviewed and analysed. Viologen appended Schiff base polymer and its symmetrical supercapacitor device performance
A new hyperbranched viologen containing Schiff base polymer (VSBP) is synthesized by condensing TRIPOD and VDA. The polymer is characterized using spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR & 13C NMR) and microscopic (SEM) analyses. The VSBP modified NF electrode renders an effectual electrochemical performance with maximum specific capacitance of 256 F/g at 0.5 A/g. From cyclic stability measurement, 87% capacitance retention is retained at 10 A/g and 95% achieved at 0.5 A/g after 3000 GCD cycles in a three-electrode system. Assembling of VSBP modified NF electrode as a symmetrical supercapacitor device exhibits a high energy density value of 17.02 Wh/kg with a power density of 816 W/kg and acceptable capacitance retention is achieved 90.6% at 1 A/g current density after 5000 cycles. 2023 Elsevier Ltd -
Virtual Community Mentoring Models for Middle School Underachievers Psychosocial Development and Well-Being During COVID-19
Recent studies highlight the outcomes of COVID-19 on the psychosocial skills of early adolescents. It shows the unavailability of virtual community mentoring models for teenagers' individual and interpersonal growth in the virtual scenario. Hence, there emerges a need to explore and apply the available virtual communication resources by facilitators, families, and other community professionals for teenagers self-development. This article reports the application of virtual resources like WhatsApp, graphic design platforms (CANVA and Adobe), graphic interchange formats (GIPHY App), all-in-one visual content editing forums (InShot App), and memes (Meme Generator App) in engaging and supporting community mentoring capacities leading to psychosocial development and well-being for teenagers during COVID-19. Through this article, contemporary virtual models are explored and executed with community guidance to integrate the personal developmental skills of middle school underachievers. Virtual leadership program for adolescents with muscular dystrophy: a process evaluation
Children with muscular dystrophy go through the challenge of moving into adolescence compounded with the challenge of living with a debilitating muscle disease. This paper describes the process evaluation of a group leadership program for adolescents with muscular dystrophy. A five-day online program was conducted for 14 participants, 12 males, and 2 females, between 13 and 18 years, beneficiaries of Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) trust, Kerala, India. The sessions, which lasted around one and a half hours each, focused on self-discovery through a participatory strength-based approach. The participants feedback was thematically analyzed. The process evaluation parameters, fidelity, dose delivered and received, reach, and context were found to be effective. The 100% attendance of the participants and their perceived improvement in self-confidence, self-awareness, friends circle, skills-set, and leadership were identified as positive outcomes. Psychosocial intervention programs through the online platform, with structured follow-ups for adolescents with life-limiting conditions would be beneficial. 2024 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. -
Virtual Reality in Tourism: A Research Note
Technology inclusions have been deriving disruptive changes in the tourism industry. The most sought-after digital tool virtual reality (VR) has been highly preferred by destination marketers in formulating their marketing strategies and executions and branding their destinations. Though VR inclusion started early, the pandemic crisis has added effectiveness to the vibrance of the industrys offerings. However, the research of VR inclusions in tourism marketing needs wider evidence that would eventually facilitate the thereof in identifying and understanding of the emerging tourists micro-segments based on their motives, duality of destination management and branding, and the relevance for conceiving memorable experiences. This research note indicated three such critical aspects VR in upscaling tourism, VR as a marketing strategy for sustainability, and VR as reality or reality for tourists. Viscosity-sensitive and AIE-active bimodal fluorescent probe for the selective detection of OCl? and Cu2+: a dual sensing approach via DFT and biological studies using green gram seeds
A novel dual-mode viscosity-sensitive and AIE-active fluorescent chemosensor based on the naphthalene coupled pyrene (NCP) moiety was designed and synthesized for the selective detection of OCl? and Cu2+. In non-viscous media, NCP exhibited weak fluorescence; however, with an increase in viscosity using various proportions of glycerol, the fluorescence intensity was enhanced to 461 nm with a 6-fold increase in fluorescence quantum yields, which could be utilized for the quantitative determination of viscosity. Interestingly, NCP exhibited novel AIE characteristics in terms of size and growth in H2O-CH3CN mixtures with high water contents and different volume percentage of water, which was investigated using fluorescence, DLS study and SEM analysis. Interestingly, this probe can also be effectively employed as a dual-mode fluorescent probe for light up fluorescent detection of OCl? and Cu2+ at different emission wavelengths of 439 nm and 457 nm via chemodosimetric and chelation pathways, respectively. The fast-sensing ability of NCP towards OCl? was shown by a low detection limit of 0.546 ?M and the binding affinity of NCP with Cu2+ was proved by a low detection limit of 3.97 ?M and a high binding constant of 1.66 103 M?1. The sensing mechanism of NCP towards OCl? and Cu2+ was verified by UV-vis spectroscopy, fluorescence analysis, 1H-NMR analysis, mass spectroscopy, DFT study and Job plot analysis. For practical applications, the binding of NCP with OCl? and Cu2+ was determined using a dipstick method and a cell imaging study in a physiological medium using green gram seeds. 2024 The Royal Society of Chemistry. -
Visible light active bismuth chromate/curcuma longa heterostructure for enhancing photocatalytic activity
Bismuth chromate nanostructures were fabricated via hydrolysis technique using curcuma longa for enhancing the photocatalytic activity. The analytes have been labelled as Bi2CrO6-C, when prepared without using curcuma longa and Bi2CrO6-G, prepared using curcuma longa extract (Bi2CrO6/Curcuma longa). The as-fabricated catalysts have been confirmed via characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UVVis. DRS. The as-synthesised analytes have been evaluated their photocatalytic efficiency via photodegradation of an organic pollutant, Methyl Orange (MO). The current research findings imposed the effect of inculcation of a green extract curcuma longa reduces particle size and increases surface area of the material and moreover makes heterostructure with Bismuth chromate and inhibits recombination of photogenerated charges for efficient degradation of the organic pollutant. Visible Light Mediated Organophotoredox-Catalyzed One-Pot Domino Synthesis of Novel 6,7 Disubstituted 1H-Pyrroles
The development of environmentally benign protocols to synthesize novel N-heterocycles is vital in the field of synthetic organic chemistry. We herein report a successful one-pot domino synthesis of novel 6,7 disubstituted 1H-pyrroles using substituted phenacyl bromide, barbituric acid/Meldrums acid, aromatic amines catalysed by 5mol% Fluorescein in presence of visible light. This procedure is a useful and adaptable method for the synthesis of pyrroles since it is compatible with a wide range of sensitive functional groups, does not require column chromatography purification. During the reaction, Fluorescein may catalyse the formation of enamine leading to amino alcohol which subsequently undergoes dehydration to give 6,7 disubstituted 1H-pyrroles. All the synthesized derivatives were obtained in 9095% yields and were characterized by 1H, 13C NMR and HRMS (ESI) analysis. Visible light photodegradation of organic dyes using electrochemically synthesized MoO3/ZnO
In this study, flake-like MoO3-ZnO composite was prepared using a simple and robust electrochemical setup. The composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, photoluminescence, zeta potential analysis, and electrochemical impedance study. The modified ZnO shows a remarkable catalytic activity towards the photodegradation of three potentially hazardous dyes, malachite green, crystal violet, and methylene blue. More than 95% of both malachite green and crystal violet degraded within 140 min under visible light irradiation. Scavenger studies reveal that OH radicals produced by the photo-separated charges on MoO3-ZnO are responsible for the degradation of all three dyes. The photoactive charge carriers show less recombination rate as evidenced by the photoluminescence spectrum due to the interparticle charge migration process. This work suggests a new versatile procedure for the synthesis of MoO3-ZnO composites and establishes its photocatalytic efficacy under visible light with three common pollutant dyes found in wastewater. Visible light responsive Gd, N co-doped mesoporous titania in the photo-oxidation of some novel 9-(N,N-Dimethylaminomethyl)anthracene systems
Oxidative semiconductor catalysis by light can be considered as an easy method for the conversion of harmful aromatics to less harmful products and at the same time move towards a sustainable chemistry. The present work reports the preparation of Gd, N co-doped TiO2 system by hydrothermal technique followed by calcination at 500C and checks its activity in photo-oxidation reactions. The prepared system was characterized by various physico-chemical techniques such as X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, TGDTG, UV-DRS, SEM, TEM and XPS. Structural identity and mesoporous nature were identified from XRD and BET measurements respectively. On reaction, Tertiary amine appended anthracene and its phenyl substituted derivative in CH3CN yielded Anthraquinone as the major product. Substituted Anthracenemethanamine reacted slowly and a relatively stable intermediate could be isolated at shorter periods of time. The products were separated and purified by column chromatography and the resultant products were characterized thoroughly by 1H NMR, IR spectroscopy and GCMS analysis. 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York. -
Visiting Indian Hospitals Before, during and after COVID
The prevailing COVID-19 situation has brought in temporary and permanent changes in the attitude and lifestyle of people. Starting from Hand sanitizers and face masks, it extends to online classrooms and work from home culture. In case of visiting hospitals and medications, people with pre-existing medical conditions and minor health issues tend to delay or avoid visiting hospitals due to fear of infection, which is dangerous. Further, people or patients tend to access several alternatives and precautions. The alternatives include home remedies, ayurvedic medication, yoga and meditation. On the other hand, hospitals are trying to adapt online consulting and telemedicine. Besides, Cancellation or delay of nonemergency surgeries became inevitable in the lockdown phase. This survey conducted among the people of Erode district, Tamilnadu to study the perception of people concerning visiting hospitals for health issues. The results show that fear of infection, financial and transportation difficulties are the major factors which affected people from visiting hospital. Also, changing trends like Telemedicine and home remedies are likely to be permanently opted by people. In Brief, the outcomes reveal the changing attitude of people towards medication and hospital visiting habits. 2022 World Scientific Publishing Company. -
