Factors Affecting the Risk Perceptions of Cryptocurrency Investors
This study explores risk perceptions in cryptocurrency investments among Indian investors. It employs a multistage random sampling survey of 228 investors. Four key factors influence this perception: conceptual clarity, investment education, awareness of investment options, and fear-induced psychological factors. The overall risk perception of crypto investors is high. Based on our findings, we suggest that the Indian government should organize an awareness campaign to create awareness and educate investors about cryptocurrency. Policymakers and investment managers should focus on transforming high-risk investors into lower-risk investors through education and support, fostering a more favorable investment environment. 2024 The Institute of Behavioral Finance. -
Evolutionary multiple instance boosting framework for weakly supervised learning
Multiple instance boosting (MILBoost) is a framework which uses multiple instance learning (MIL) with boosting technique to solve the problems regarding weakly labeled inexact data. This paper proposes an enhanced multiple boosting frameworkevolutionary MILBoost (EMILBoost) which utilizes differential evolution (DE) to optimize the combination of weak classifier or weak estimator weights in the framework. A standard MIL dataset MUSK and a binary classification dataset Hastie_10_2 are used to evaluate the results. Covid stimulating organic food consumption: Exploring factors of consumer buying behaviour
The outburst of coronavirus pandemic has forced people to rethink about their eating habits, what do they eat, where they get their food from, and how the food is produced, stored, and prepared. Statistics confirms that there is a significant growth in awareness level for organic foods in the global market. The purpose this study is to explore the factors leading to the perception and attitude for the purchase of organic/healthy food in the immediate context of food crisis in India. The questionnaire was used to implement the study and data was gathered from 387 respondents from the Delhi NCR, India. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used for the data analysis. The finding reveals eight factors named as natural content, nutritional content, sensory appeal, environmental concern, attitude, lifestyle, perceived value and purchase intentions, leading to consumption of organic food. These results reflect the shift in nutritional content and natural content are the two most important variable leading to organic food consumption. 2021 Ecological Society of India. Antecedents of organic food consumption in Delhi NCR
The consumption of organic food in increasing rapidly in the country. It has a significant impact on the environment, individuals and public health. This is an attempt to understand the antecedents of organic food and try to re-establish the relationship between the attributes of organic food, the utilitarian and hedonic attitudes and consumer purchase intentions. The SOR model has been used to support the theoretical framework for conducting the research on organic food products. The nutritional values, sensory appeal, environmental concern price and natural content of organic food products have significant and positive relationship on utilitarian and hedonic attitudes of the consumer. Circular supply chains in manufacturingQuo vadis? Accomplishments, challenges and future opportunities
Circular approach in manufacturing supply chain (SC) operations yields multiple benefits through optimal utilisation and consumption of resources. This study maps the scope and structure of circularity in the manufacturing SC discipline and explores the evolution of the domain over time. We review 946 journal articles published between 2013 and September 2023. Our study identifies key drivers and barriers to circular economy (CE) deployment in manufacturing SC operations, bibliometric parameters, emerging research themes, decision support tools, theories and applications. Using the theory extension approach, we propose a strategic framework to fortify the deployment of circularity in SCs. This comprehensive study renders a methodological contribution through combined descriptive content analysis and bibliometric and network analyses to evaluate the circular manufacturing SC operations concepts, theories and applications. We posit that manufacturing firms require to deploy innovation-led approaches to embed the CE strategies in their SC operations. We find that the studies investigating green skill development and circularity-culture adoption can facilitate manufacturers to understand the efficacy of circularity in their SC operations. The findings of this study can facilitate the practitioners to identify the links between the CE approaches and their strategic implications and examine CE implementation at the strategic level. 2024 The Authors. Exploring Socio-Political Factors and Quality of Life Among LGBT Individuals in India
The quality of life of queer individuals in India is a result of a complex sociopolitical climate which is what this study aims to explore through qualitative methodology. Previous research has explored the social factors that impact the wellbeing of LGBT individuals in western countries, while the impact of politics on the wellbeing of marginalized groups is still largely unexplored. Through thematic analysis, this study found that family support and peer networks are the two most important social structures that determine the quality of life of LGBT emerging adults in India, whereas the impact of politics on wellbeing depends on the level of political awareness of the participants and their socio-political privilege in terms of caste, class and gender. However, there were significant differences in the relevant factors that affect the quality of life for cisgender and transgender participants which leaves room for further research. The findings indicate intra-community conflicts and changing dynamics within the community, and there needs to be extensive research on understanding the intersectionality of different identities within the community and their impact on the lives of queer individuals. 2024 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. -
Identification of emission-line stars in transition phase from pre-main sequence to main sequence
Pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars evolve into main-sequence (MS) phase over a period of time. Interestingly, we found a scarcity of studies in existing literature that examine and attempt to better understand the stars in PMS to MS transition phase. The purpose of this study is to detect such rare stars, which we named as 'transition phase' (TP) candidates-stars evolving from the PMS to the MS phase. We identified 98 TP candidates using photometric analysis of a sample of 2167 classical Be (CBe) and 225 Herbig Ae/Be (HAeBe) stars. This identification is done by analysing the near-and mid-infrared excess and their location in the optical colour-magnitude diagram. The age and mass of 58 of these TP candidates are determined to be between 0.1-5 Myr and 2-10.5 M?, respectively. The TP candidates are found to possess rotational velocity and colour excess values in between CBe and HAeBe stars, which is reconfirmed by generating a set of synthetic samples using the machine learning approach. 2021 The Author(s) Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of Royal Astronomical Society. -
Decoding the X-Ray Flare from MAXI J0709-159 Using Optical Spectroscopy and Multiepoch Photometry
We present a follow-up study on the recent detection of two X-ray flaring events by MAXI/Gas Slit Camera observations in soft and hard X-rays from MAXI J0709-159 in the direction of HD 54786 (LY CMa), on 2022 January 25. The X-ray luminosity during the flare was around 1037 erg s-1 (MAXI), which got reduced to 1032 erg s-1 (NuSTAR) after the flare. We took low-resolution spectra of HD 54786 from the 2.01 m Himalayan Chandra Telescope and the 2.34 m Vainu Bappu Telescope (VBT) facilities in India, on 2022 February 1 and 2. In addition to H? emission, we found emission lines of He i in the optical spectrum of this star. By comparing our spectrum of the object with those from the literature we found that He i lines show variability. Using photometric studies we estimate that the star has an effective temperature of 20,000 K. Although HD 54786 is reported as a supergiant in previous studies, our analysis favors it to be evolving off the main sequence in the color-magnitude diagram. We could not detect any infrared excess, ruling out the possibility of IR emission from a dusty circumstellar disk. A happy mother raises a happy child: insights from employed mothers in Bengali families in Kolkata
The present study explores the complexities of motherhood in Bengali middle-class families, where mothers are traditionally viewed as primary caregivers. Despite societal shifts and increased female workforce participation, mothers still face pressure to prioritize intensive mothering. Through qualitative analysis, the research explores how employed mothers balance work and childcare responsibilities, shedding light on their agency and empowerment within patriarchal structures. Findings reveal a nuanced landscape where mothers navigate societal expectations while striving for autonomy. Support systems, changing socio-economic dynamics, and technological advancements contribute to reshaping maternal roles. Mothers, though not uniformly identifying as feminists, challenge traditional norms, embracing an egalitarian approach to mothering. The study underscores the resilience of mothers in negotiating patriarchal constraints, highlighting their capacity to foster empowerment for themselves and their children within familial and societal contexts. My Motherhood, My Way: A Sociological Study of Contemporary Employed Mothers in Kolkata
Motherhood in India has been understood primarily by placing mothers in the domestic space. A mother is constructed as a protector and the complete caregiver of her children. But there have been significant changes in the status of Indian women recently. In the 21st century, with suitable qualifications and employment opportunities, women have the choice to be economically independent and career-driven, which has a profound impact on their roles and responsibilities as protectors and caregivers in the home. It is essential to study and document how women in this generation have started to redefine their roles and negotiate what a mothers duties are at home. This study aims to make a systematic inquiry to understand the issues and challenges faced by employed mothers in everyday life and how they balance their career and childcare activities. Researchers investigate this through a qualitative study on mothers employed in different types of professions in the city of Kolkata. Data was collected by conducting in-depth interviews of around twenty-nine urban, upper-middle class employed mothers from different professional backgrounds to have a set of diverse narratives about their experiences and struggles. The key findings of this study provide an insight into the challenges that mothers face and their balancing mechanisms. Such studies have the scope to motivate many employed mothers by presenting some cases of women who have succeeded in breaking the stereotypical ideas of motherhood and are redefining their stories in more humane terms. 2021. Performance of pradhan mantri fasal bima yojana: Perception of farmers in rural bangalore
Crop insurance is an agricultural development program supporting the sustainability of farmers. PradhanMantriFasalBimaYojana crop insurance scheme was introduced to provide insurance cover, financial stability, innovative and modern methods of agricultural practice. The study primarily focuses on the reasons for enrollment, benefits, challenges and suggestions regarding the PradhanMantriFasalBimaYojana with respect to farmers of Rural Bengaluru. Unveiling the synergistic effect of amorphous CoW-phospho-borides for overall alkaline water electrolysis
Amorphous transition-metal-phospho-borides (TMPBs) are emerging as a new class of hybrid bifunctional catalysts for water-splitting. The present work reports the discovery of CoWPB as a new promising material that adds to the smaller family of TMPBs. The optimized compositions, namely Co4WPB5 and Co2WPB1 could achieve 10 mA/cm2 at just 72 mV and 262 mV of overpotentials for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), respectively, in 1 M KOH. Furthermore, the catalyst showed good performance in a 2-electrode assembly (1.59 V for 10 mA/cm2) with considerable stability (70 h stability, 10,000 operating cycles). Detailed morphological and electrochemical characterizations unveiled insights into the role of all elements in catalyst's improved performance. The presence of W was found to be crucial in improving the electronic conductivity and charge redistribution, making CoWPB suitable for both HER and OER. In computational simulation analysis, two configurations with different atomic environments, namely, CoWPBH and CoWPBO were found to have the lowest calculated overpotentials for HER and OER, respectively. It was found that the surface P-sites in CoWPBH were HER-active while the Co-sites in CoWPBO were OER-active sites. Unveiling the kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction in defect-engineered B/P-incorporated cobalt-oxide electrocatalysts
Defect-rich transition-metal oxide electrocatalysts hold great promise for alkaline water electrolysis due to their enhanced activity and stability. This study presents a new strategy that significantly improve the OER activity of Co-oxide nanosheets through incorporation of B and P (B/P-CoOx NS), eventually leading to abundant surface defects and oxygen vacancies. The B/P-CoOx NS demonstrates low overpotential of 220 mV to achieve 10 mA/cm2. The electrochemical and kinetic studies coupled with conventional morphological and structural characterizations, reveal that various crystalline defects like vacancies, dislocations, twin planes, and grain boundaries play crucial roles in promoting the OH? ion adsorption, the formation of intermediates, and the desorption of oxygen molecules. The industrial viability of the developed electrocatalyst is substantiated through assessments under harsh industrial conditions of 6 M KOH at 60 C in a zero-gap single-cell alkaline electrolyzer which achieves 1 A/cm2 at 1.95 V. Chronoamperometry tests (100 h) highlight remarkable robustness of the electrocatalyst. This work establishes a new strategy to fabricate defect-rich OER electrocatalysts, setting a precedent to achieve better OER rates with non-noble materials. 2024 -
Exploring In Situ Kinetics of Oxygen Vacancy-Rich B/P-Incorporated Cobalt Oxide Nanowires for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction
Defect-engineering of transition-metal oxide-based nanocatalysts is an innovative approach for improving the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to their enhanced activity and stability. The present study introduces a facile approach aimed at enhancing OER activity by incorporating boron and phosphorus into cobalt oxide nanowires (B/P-CoOx NWs). The resulting material, enriched with oxygen vacancies (Ov), as confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), induced a complete structural transformation from Co3O4 to a CoO phase. The B/P-CoOx NWs exhibited an impressive overpotential of only 230 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2 in 1 M KOH. The presence of Ov was proved to be responsible for the improvement in conductivity along with the quantity and quality of active sites. Electrochemical kinetic analysis was performed to reveal the crucial role of Ov in facilitating the OER mechanism by enhancing the adsorption and desorption of OH- ions and O2 molecules from the surface. The robustness of the developed electrocatalyst was demonstrated through a chronoamperometric test conducted over 80 h and a recyclability test spanning 10 000 cycles. This study focuses on the fabrication and dynamic investigation of the electrocatalyst, laying the groundwork for further advancements in non-noble material-based electrocatalysts. 2024 American Chemical Society. -
IMPACT OF GOVERNMENT ADVERTISEMENTS ABOUT AGRICULTURAL INFORMATION IN SENSITISING RURAL FARMERS: A STUDY OF MARATHWADA REGION IN MAHARASHTRA
To stimulate the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, has initiated a myriad of welfare initiatives aimed at farmers, entailing a substantial financial commitment. A portion of this financial outlay is also allocated to the dissemination of pertinent information among the farming community. However, a pertinent question arises: does this information reach the rural farmers and do they avail the benefit? The present study attempts to address this issue. Based on a tested questionnaire, a primary survey was conducted in Marathwada region of Maharashtra where the incidence of agrarian crisis is insurmountable. The study found a limited impact of government advertisements regarding agricultural information on farmers in terms of increasing their awareness level. The primary conduit for agricultural information, as ascertained by the study, predominantly stems from informal sources. Among the socio-economic characteristics, only education and land ownership are found to have an impact on the level of awareness and their willingness to acquire information on agriculture. The percentages of farmers, who are aware of the scheme and get its benefits, do not even exceed 30 per cent, irrespective of the scheme under consideration. It was found that only limited farmers are taking benefit of the scheme even after receiving information. A general disinterest was observed among the farmers because of the heavy paperwork of availing those benefits. To engender a constructive transformation in farmers awareness levels regarding agricultural schemes and programmes, a well-thought-out and strategic endeavour becomes indispensable. 2022 National Institute of Rural Development. Data de-duplication in cloud storage is crucial for optimizing resource utilization and reducing transmission overhead. By eliminating redundant copies of data, it enhances storage efficiency, lowers costs, and minimizes network bandwidth requirements, thereby improving overall performance and scalability of cloud-based systems. The research investigates the critical intersection of data de-duplication (DD) and privacy concerns within cloud storage services. Distributed Data (DD), a widely employed technique in these services and aims to enhance capacity utilization and reduce transmission bandwidth. However, it poses challenges to information privacy, typically addressed through encoding mechanisms. One significant approach to mitigating this conflict is hierarchical approved de-duplication, which empowers cloud users to conduct privilegebased duplicate checks before data upload. This hierarchical structure allows cloud servers to profile users based on their privileges, enabling more nuanced control over data management. In this research, we introduce the SHA method for de-duplication within cloud servers, supplemented by a secure pre-processing assessment. The proposed method accommodates dynamic privilege modifications, providing flexibility and adaptability to evolving user needs and access levels. Extensive theoretical analysis and simulated investigations validate the efficacy and security of the proposed system. By leveraging the SHA algorithm and incorporating robust pre-processing techniques, our approach not only enhances efficiency in data deduplication but also addresses crucial privacy concerns inherent in cloud storage environments. Rejuvenating human resource accounting research: a review using bibliometric analysis
The current study attempts to map the intellectual structure of Human Resource Accounting to understand the research gaps and future trajectories. The study employs systematic literature review technique to extract relevant literature, bibliometric analysis to map the intellectual structure of research in human resource accounting, to identify underlying research themes and content analysis to identify avenues for future research. Based on 2438publications, author keyword co-occurrences extracted four themes namely, Human Resource Management, Intellectual Capital, Human Capital, and Voluntary Disclosure. The study also summarizes significant findings of papers under each cluster through content analysis identifying areas for future research. The study provides a birds eye view of the intellectual structure of academic research efforts in the field of human resource accounting. The study is one of the first attempt to comprehensively review the academic literature from Scopus database employing systematic literature review, bibliometric methods, and content analysis in the field of human resource accounting. Insinuating cocktailed components in biocompatible-nanoparticles could act as an impressive neo-adjuvant strategy to combat COVID-19
The novel Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spread, freezes all sectors, and was declared as a life-threatening disease by the World Health Organization on Jan 30, 2020. So far, no specific drugs are identified or approved for treating SARS-CoV-2. In the past few years, nanomaterials are in the limelight for their ability to deliver the drugs effectively and selectively like siRNA to target/prime infection sites, and benefits us to visualize the particular regions, treatment reactions via non-intruding imaging techniques. As intranasal delivery interacts directly to the infection site with minimal side effects on the healthy cell, we postulate to administer a mixture of few polyherbal formulations like the golden spice curcumin, sitopaladi churna (SPC), and kaempferol in zein-chitosan nanoparticles as a life-saving measure for treating Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases. The LimbuTamang Communities of Sikkim History and Future of Their Demand for Reservation
Since its merger in 1975 with the Indian union, one of the major sociopolitical issues in Sikkim has been the demand for reservation in the state legislative assembly for two communitiesLimbu and Tamang. The demand of reservation for the Limbus and Tamangs crystallised in Sikkim when these communities were notified as Scheduled Tribes under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Orders (Amendment) Act, 2002.
