Multitask EfficientNet affective computing for student engagement detection
In the realm of education, feedback emerges as a pivotal component, serving to foster engagement and interaction while also facilitating the refinement of teaching methods to capture and maintain student attention. Traditional classroom assessment methods often struggle to accurately gauge the degree of comprehension among students during lectures, relying on manual comment collection that inherently carries the risk of inaccuracies. In response to this challenge, a novel system has been proposed, harnessing the power of Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) technology to capture student feedback. Within this framework, students are given a unique avenue to convey their emotions and reactions, employing facial expressions and gestures as the means to communicate. This innovative approach enables the analysis of students emotional responses and thereby provides invaluable insights into their comprehension levels, as well as the overall quality and engagement experienced during lectures. The approach takes shape through the utilization of Computer Vision techniques, with a particular focus on an unobtrusive methodology for assessing students overall engagement. Overcoming limitations of traditional assessment, our approach integrates compound scaling, employing the proposed Multitask EfficientNetB0 model recognized for its proved accuracy in emotion recognition (95.7%) and behavior analysis (96.3%) across diverse datasets (DAiSEE, iSED, iSAFFE). The behavioral classification system categorizes students into Engaged and Disengaged classes within a multi-class framework, providing nuanced insights into comprehension and Student engagement. Assessment metrics, including ROC Curves, Precision, Recall, and F1-Score, ensure a thorough evaluation. Our systems adaptability is demonstrated across varied educational environments, showcasing real-world efficacy in classrooms, laboratories, and seminar halls. The inclusion of MTCNN enhances face detection capabilities, facilitating robust analysis in dynamic scenarios. Expanding its applicability, the model has been put to the test in a range of educational settings, including classrooms, laboratory environments, and seminar halls, offering dual-capability analysis of both emotions and behavior. This comprehensive approach yields nuanced insights into student engagement and interaction, and its performance has been validated through real-world deployment within classrooms and seminars The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024. -

An asymmetric analysis of overall globalization on financial inclusion
Purpose: Financial inclusion is acknowledged as a critical facilitator of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals agenda for 2030. Therefore, this study aims to examine the asymmetric role of overall globalization on financial inclusion by controlling economic growth, urbanization and population for the selected South Asian countries. Design/methodology/approach: Applying the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag approach to cointegration explores the impact of overall globalization on financial inclusion in the presence of additional variables like economic growth, urbanization and population in the designed financial inclusion function. Findings: The estimated econometric outcomes show that increasing overall globalization fosters financial inclusion while decreasing overall globalization reduces financial inclusion. Furthermore, a positive (negative) change in economic growth leads to an increase (decrease) in financial inclusion while varying short-run findings. Moreover, both positive and negative changes increase financial inclusion in the long run in connection with urbanization. Although the short-run results are not significant, the study finds that an increase (decrease) in population leads to a decrease (increase) in financial inclusion. Finally, to support the promotion of financial inclusivity throughout South Asia, several policies pertaining to financial inclusion are suggested. Originality/value: To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first study to examine the asymmetries related to overall globalization on financial inclusion by controlling economic growth, urbanization and population. 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
Characterization of product cordial dragon graphs
The vertices of a graph are to be labelled with 0 or 1 such that each edge gets the label as the product of its end vertices. If the number of vertices labelled with 0's and 1's differ by at most one and if the number of edges labelled with 0's and 1's differ by at most by one, then the labelling is called product cordial labelling. Complete characterizations of product cordial dragon graphs is given. We also characterize dragon graphs whose line graphs are product cordial. 2024 Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University. -
Formal banks, semi-formal SHGs or informal moneylenders, who is better? a study of borrower credit preference in India
The present study explores the factors driving borrowers preference for formal banks, self-help groups (SHGs) and moneylenders. The study is based on a systematic survey of 839 rural borrowers from southern India, sampled from four districts with varied levels of credit access (surplus, constrained and moderate credit). The data was analysed using multinomial logistic regression in SPSS. Results show how banks and moneylenders exclude borrowers based on relative wealth and gender. SHGs service women borrowers but are preferred more by wealthier borrowers, highlighting intragroup inequalities. Yet, the three lenders service a variety of purposes, justifying their demand in the market. The study enhances understanding of rural borrowers constraints concerning various credit sources. The implications of this study are as follows: one is identifying the lacunae in the formal banking system, which policy amendments could address. Two, the study recommends an investigation of intragroup inequalities within SHGs. Third, the study underscores the demand for multiple players in the rural credit markets and their contribution to the borrowers credit needs. (2024), (Indian Academy of Sciences). COUPLE STRESS EFFECT ON FERRO-CONVECTION TRIGGERED BY CHEMICAL REACTION IN A POROUS LAYER WITH SPARSE DISTRIBUTION; [????? ??????? ?????????? ?? ?????????????, ??????????? ???????? ???????? ? ????????? ???? ? ??????????? ??????????]
The study delves into the impact of couple stress on the commencement of convection in a porous material oriented horizontally. This layer contains a chemically reactive ferromagnetic fluid and experiences bottom heating. The investigation utilizes small perturbation methodology to explore and understand the impact of couple stress on the initiation of convection in this specific system. With the assumption of a non-autocatalytic exothermic reaction, eigenvalues are determined utilizing the Galerkin method. The analysis explores the effects of magnetic and couple stress parameters, as well as the Frank-Kamenetskii number. The observation indicates that the acceleration of the onset of ferroconvection is influenced by both magnetic forces and chemical reactions. Simultaneously, the presence of the couple stress component serves to stabilize the system. Moreover, when the nonlinearity of magnetization is sufficiently pronounced, the destabilization of the fluid layer is observed to be marginal. 2024 Oles Honchar Dnipro National University; -
A novel image compression method using wavelet coefficients and Huffman coding
Compressing medical images to reduce their size while maintaining their clinical and diagnostic information is crucial. Because medical images can be large and demand a lot of storage and transmission capacity, effective compression methods aid medical institutions in better storing and transmitting medical images, reducing costs, speeding up data transfer, and simplifying managing image databases. However, it is essential to note that image compression in medical imaging can also introduce drawbacks, such as loss of information and poor output image quality. Therefore, a suitable compression algorithm and parameter must be chosen to balance file size and visual fidelity. This paper suggests an effective image compression method employing the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), followed by a reduction operation and Huffman coding to produce a mere lossless encoding to transmit the images over a channel. The extracted DWT coefficients are mapped to the nearest integral value. All four sub-bands of DWT are joined, and then a window of 3 3 is selected for reduction operation by choosing the origin as the pivot element. The Huffman coding algorithm is used to compress the processed image. The pivot origin element is used in the reversible reduction while uncompressing the image. When sending compressed data across an unreliable route, the window size and pivot element selection keep the compressed data secure. Standard measures such as bits per pixel (BPP) and compression ratio (CR) are used to assess the suggested approach. The efficiency of the suggested course of action is supported by the research's findings, which use a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of 54.66 dB. 2023 The Authors -

HEALTH EXPENDITURES AND HEALTH OUTCOMES IN CENTRAL EUROPE AND THE BALTIC REGION
In Central Europe and the Baltic region, healthcare expenditure has been growing slightly faster than across the euro area and in OECD countries. However, health outcomes as regards chronic diseases prove to be modest in the euro area and OECD countries compared to Central Europe and the Baltic region. Panel data analysis and country-specific regressions were conducted using World Bank data spanning from 2000 to 2019. Evidence suggests a significant correlation between private and current health expenditures and reduced mortality from chronic diseases in males, females and the total population across the panel, leading to improved longevity. Yet, public health expenditure does not correlate with a substantial reduction in mortality or a higher lifespan among the population, whether considered collectively or among males and females separately. Similarly, an increase in current health expenditure by one unit leads to significant reductions in mortality from non-communicable diseases: by 29 percent in the total population, 22 percent in females and 36 percent in males. Public health spending in Lithuania and Russia has been shown to decrease mortality from non-communicable diseases. Furthermore, chronic mortality is associated with a significant decline in labour productivity: by 42 percent in the total population, 40 percent in males and 45 percent in females. Therefore, interventions implemented through public health systems may reduce mortality from chronic conditions in the study countries. (2023), (Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University). Leveraging history to invoke nationalism: from the annals of history to social engineering of present and future in Hindi cinema
Nationalism calls for ones loyalty and affiliation towards their chosen nation. Various versions of nationalism emphasise that one must prioritise said nation above themselves and their personal ethics, hence, allowing the nation to overpower the nationalists individuality. In this article, we use Critical Discourse Analysis to deconstruct the narratives of nationalism as portrayed in two popular films, viz. The Kashmir Files and Uri: The Surgical Strike, which are based on real historical eventsthe exodus of Kashmiri Hindus and the surgical strike by the Indian Army in retaliation to the Uri attack. Both films use narrative strategies to frame key historical events into certain ideological contexts, and hence they serve the populist purpose of swaying viewers opinion in favour of the dominant socio-political class. 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. -
