Exploring the relationship between esg performance and profitability in Indian power companies
This study aims to assess the relationship and impact of Indian power companies' environment, social, governance (ESG) scores on firm performance. Since 2022, CRISIL Ratings Ltd publishes yearly ESG scores for 225 companies in India. The final 'ESG' score is a composite of individual scores for the three metrics: 'Environment', 'Social', and 'Governance'. This study intends to examine the influence of ESG scores on financial profitability measured by both net profit ratio and return on investment. The existence and degree of association between the variables is measured using correlation and simple linear regression analyses, respectively. The findings suggest that the overall ESG composite score is positively and significantly associated with firm profitability and moderately associated with returns. The 'Governance' metric stands out which has a strong and positive relationship with profitability in particular. These findings advocate that by investing in ESG initiatives, the chances of better financial performance are improved. 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -

Exploring the role of social media influencer marketing in the tourism sector
The growing popularity of social media influencers (SMI) increasingly encourages destinations to use social media influencer marketing (SMIM) for their promotional campaigns. SMIs demonstrate the power of an individual based on certain factors employed to influence a broad segment of audience, and when it is used for marketing purposes, it is known as SMIM. SMIM is a part of the social media marketing that exercises all the commercial marketing techniques via social media channels. SMIM has impacted many industries including tourism, but looking at the progressive growth of SMIM today, it is surprising that such little attention had been paid to this area. However, while there is increasing use of SMIM by tourism organizations, there is a lack of research and limited knowledge on the roles of SMIM in travel and tourism. This chapter sheds light on the use of SMIM in the tourism sector where existing literature on the SMIM, its factors, and the influence of SMIM on the tourism sector by distinct authors are reviewed to identify the effectiveness of SMIM in the travel and tourism industry. 2023, IGI Global. Exploring the role of social media marketing in the education sector
The educational system across the world is undergoing a transition and is affected by numerous factors encompassing technology to psychology. The traditional model of face-to-face teacher-led learning approach has been gradually shifted to student-centric and outcome-based learning. Though the intellect and learning capacities among students differ in many aspects, personalized attention of the teacher to student and practical exposure to subjects are considered as few significant areas of concern in curriculum and pedagogy. The late 2000s witnessed the dawn of many EdTech companies proclaiming personalized attention and experiential learning through online platforms. EdTech companies make fine use of social media marketing and adopt well-thought-out strategies to reach out to the student segment and parents. The prime objective of this chapter is to study the role of social media marketing strategies in capturing student segments and the influence that makes on parents' purchase decisions. 2022, IGI Global. Extraction of preformed mixed phase graphene sheets from graphitized coal by fungal leaching
The potential use of coal as source of carbon nano structure is seldom investigated. Herein we report a facile fungal solubilization method to extract mixed phase carbon structure from low grade coal. Coal had been used as a primary source for the production of carbon nanostructure with novel property, in addition to its main utility as a fuel. The major hurdle in its application is the inherent mineral embedded in it. An environmentally benign demineralization procedure make coal as a widely accepted precursor for the novel carbon materials. With Aspergiilus niger leaching, the randomly oriented preformed crystalline mixed phase nanocarbon in coal can be extracted. Raman studies revealed the presence of E2g scattering mode of graphite. The sp3 domains at ~1355 cm-1 (D band) is an indication of diamond like structure with disorder or defect. In the 2D region, multilayer stacking of graphene layers is noticed. The ratio of the defect to graphitic bands was found to be decreasing with increasing rank of coal. Bio leaching of coal enhances the carbon content in coal while eliminating the associated minerals in it. These defected carbon is an ideal material for graphene quantum dots and carbon dots, which are useful in drug delivery and bio imaging applications. 2017, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -

Face and Emotion Recognition from Real-Time Facial Expressions Using Deep Learning Algorithms
Emotions are faster than words in the field of humancomputer interaction. Identifying human facial expressions can be performed by a multimodal approach that includes body language, gestures, speech, and facial expressions. This paper throws light on emotion recognition via facial expressions, as the face is the basic index of expressing our emotions. Though emotions are universal, they have a slight variation from one person to another. Hence, the proposed model first detects the face using histogram of gradients (HOG) recognized by deep learning algorithms such as linear support vector machine (LSVM), and then, the emotion of that person is detected through deep learning techniques to increase the accuracy percentage. The paper also highlights the data collection and preprocessing techniques. Images were collected using a simple HAAR classifier program, resized, and preprocessed by removing noise using a mean filter. The model resulted in an accuracy percentage for face and emotion being 97% and 92%, respectively. 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. -
Face Detection-Based Border Security System Using Haar-Cascade and LBPH Algorithm
Border security is a process which measures the border management ideas by a country or set of countries to wage against unspecific and unauthorized travel or trade across the country borders, to bound non-legal deport, various crimes combat, and foreclose dangerous criminals from entering in the country. A system will help in keeping a check on those personnels who forge with the legal document with an intension to cross the border. This article discusses about border security of whole Indian context, and there are various such systems which have been built since 2010 as wireless sensor network system named Panchendriya. Remote and instruction manual switch mode arm system using ultrasonic sensor for security of border. This article we have made use of Haar-Cascadian along with LBPH algorithm with their functioning. The result and discussion section we compare most recent face recognition techniques that have been used in the last ten years. The proposed prototype is discussed and shown through simulation model, it provide better result compare to existing model. Facile Synthesis of Polymer Dot and Its Antibacterial Action Against Staphylococcus aureus
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) rising from nosocomial infections is an escalating threat to human life nowadays due to the overuse of drugs. The multidrug-resistant pathogenic bacteria have increased morbidity and mortality rates, becoming a crucial global clinical challenge. Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is one of the nosocomial pathogens that cause severe invasive diseases and skin infections to human health worldwide. Herein, a non-conjugated polymer dot (NCPD) was synthesized from less toxic and biocompatible polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) via hydrothermal treatment. The fluorescence of the polymer dots was enhanced by nitrogen doping. The as-synthesized nitrogen-doped polymer dots (PDs) exhibit excitation-dependent luminescence emission and show green color fluorescence under UV light. The average size of the synthesized functionalized non-conjugated polymer dot is obtained as 4.08nm, and they exhibit an amorphous structure. No antibacterial property was observed for bulk polymer, but the doped polymer dots showed antibacterial activity against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
