Traditional Ecological Knowledge Repository in the Indian Himalayas: An Overview
Traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) refers to a body of informa-tion that is also referred to as local knowledge, traditional knowledge, native knowledge, and indigenous technological knowledge. A number of studies show the role of traditional ecological knowledge in decision-making in social-ecological systems that support sustainability and resilience. International agencies have also highlighted and emphasised the importance of TEK practises in the preservation of biological variation. For instance, the UN Convention on Biodiversity, Article 8 (j), makes it very plain that respect, maintain, and promote innovation and practises of indigenous and aboriginal populations connected with sustainable use of biolog-ical diversity are essential. The benefits of TEK for sustainable forest management were acknowledged in the 2005 Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Report by the World Bank. As environmentalists, anthropologists, and arborists share interests in TEK for academic, social, or economic reasons, this highlights the significance of TEK in difficulties relating to biodiversity protection. Numerous components of TEK are seen favourably by experts in fields of forestry, irrigation, architecture, ethno-biology, irrigation, agriculture, medicine, sun and water conservation, conventional weather prediction, adaptation to climate change, and disaster risk reduction. Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) is predominantly populated by indigenous peoples and local societies, which are quite diverse in terms of socio-culture and race. The region has nearly 40% of all of Indias indigenous tribes. This area is also special for its tradi-tional ecological knowledge. Many of the TEK-based practices have supported local communities in earning a livelihood. The indigenous peoples expertise and expe-riences are said to play a crucial part in preventing climate change, and they may give important information on the implications of climate change. Hence, sustaining biodiversity in the IHR is also a means of defending indigenous peoples rights. By making the TEK the focal point of governance systems at the IHR, the variety of options for sustainable growth and even the co-production of the body of knowl-edge would be expanded. Therefore, it seems sensible to get knowledge from the TEK before it is lost to the onslaught of modernity. However, there are numerous problems or issues with traditional ecological knowledge in India, including igno-rance in considering conservation policies by the Indian government and the lack of effective documentation of this priceless knowledge. To develop sustainable and culturally suitable management techniques, it is currently a challenge to combine indigenous knowledge standards and management methods with Western science. Realising the above, this chapter attempts to comprehend the concept of TEK and its application throughout a variety of resource management contexts throughout a variety of resource management scenarios. Further, it will explore various issues and challenges and examine the regulations thereof. Development vs. Rights A Case for Sustainable Development of Onge Tribes of Little Andaman
Human rights and environmental protections are often violated as a consequence of development activities. In addition to harming the environment, this increases the marginalisation of those who are already marginalised. The development paradigm that is based on the interests of the majority not only tends to retard the indigenous people but also renders them incapable of competing with the majority. For the indigenous people, development has always been a problem rather than a solution. Development initiatives under the umbrella of globalisation with a label of monotony, ignore the aspects of the diverse livelihoods of many indigenous peoples. The Niti Aayog proposed in its vision document, the Sustainable Development of Little Andaman, in 2021, that the island should be developed into a megacity by utilising its natural features and strategic location. The long-term objective is to develop the island into a major financial tourism hub that can rival Hong Kong and Singapore. This plan will, on the one hand, advance commerce, employment, and economic growth; on the other hand, environmental conservation issues will also arise. Concerns over this vision document have indeed been voiced by several academics, environmentalists, and conservationists due to issues with Onge indigenous rights, ecological fragility, and earthquake and tsunami susceptibility. Culturally responsive trauma-informed training for educators and school counselors
Educational systems must become trauma-informed, anti-racist, and multi-tiered systems of support for all students, which requires comprehensive training for educators and school counselors. This chapter begins with an introduction to the history of trauma-informed approaches. Second, the chapter discusses children who have experienced trauma and the critical need for trauma-informed training in schools. Third, an anti-racist framework for culturally responsive approaches is provided. Fourth, key components of trauma-informed training are discussed, specifically building relationships and establishing safety. Fifth, research-based recommendations for successful training of educators and school counselors are provided. Sixth, the wellness needs of school staff to minimize occupational burnout and combat indirect trauma, which includes vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue are discussed. Computationally efficient wavelet domain solver for florescence diffuse optical tomography
Estrogen induced proliferation of mutant cells is a growth signal hallmark of breast cancer. Fluorescent molecule that can tag Estrogen Receptor (ER) can be effectively used for detecting cancerous tissue at an early stage. A novel targetspecific NIRf dye conjugate aimed at measuring ER status was synthesized by ester formation between 17-? estradiol and a hydrophilic derivative of ICG, cyanine dye, bis-1,1-(4-sulfobutyl) indotricarbocyanine-5-carboxylic acid, sodium salt. In-vitro studies provided specific binding on ER+ve [MCF-7] cells clearly indicating nuclear localization of the dye for ER+ve as compared to plasma level staining for MDAMB-231. Furthermore, cancer prone cells showed 4.5-fold increase in fluorescence signal intensity compared to control.; A model of breast phantom was simulated to study the in-vivo efficiency of dye with the parameters of dye obtained from photo-physical and in-vitro studies. The excitation (754 nm) and emission (787 nm) equation are solved independently using parallel processing strategies. The results were obtained by carrying out wavelet transformation on forward and the inverse data sets. An improvisation of the Information content of system matrix was suggested in wavelet domain. The inverse problem was addressed using LevenbergMarquardt (LM) procedure with the minimization of objective function using Tikhonov approach. The multi resolution property of wavelet transform was explored in reducing error and increasing computational efficiency. Our results were compared with the single resolution approach on various parameters like computational time, error function, and Normalized Root Mean Square (NRMS) error. A model with background absorption coefficient of 0.01 mm-1 with anomalies of 0.02 mm-1 with constant reduced scattering of 2.0 mm for different concentration of dye was compared in the result. The reconstructed optical properties were in concurrence with the tissue property at 787 nm. Gravity-modulated RayleighBard convection in a Newtonian liquid bounded by rigidfree boundaries: a comparative study with other boundary conditions
Effect of different boundaries on the gravity-modulated RayleighBard convection has been investigated with an emphasis on rigidfree boundaries. Small-amplitude and large-amplitude modulations are studied using the linear stability analysis. The modified Venezian approach is used to study small-amplitude modulations using different modes of perturbations and the superposition principle. The existence of subharmonic motions for the case of large-amplitude modulations was explored using the Mathieu equation arising from the linear stability analysis. Floquet theory was used together with Hills infinite determinant method to compute the critical Rayleigh number for the case of large-amplitude modulations. Weakly non-linear analysis is performed leading to the cubic StuartLandau equation from the Lorenz system. Heat transport was quantified using the Nusselt number and the mean Nusselt numbers for different amplitudes and frequencies. It was found that gravity modulation has, in general, a stabilizing effect on the convection process in all three boundary types, and the heat transport was found to be an increasing function of amplitude. Another important outcome of the study is that the critical Rayleigh number for the onset of convection for rigidfree boundaries lies between those of the corresponding values of the freefree and rigidrigid boundaries in the case of both harmonic and subharmonic motions which could be exploited in controlling convection. 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V. -

Corporate social responsibility and its impact on organizational attractiveness: Unveiling the mediating role of perceived organizational support
The central aim of the study is to investigate the mediating role of perceived organizational support (POS) in the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and organizational attractiveness (OA). It employs a cross-sectional quantitative design, collecting data from diverse organizations. Multistage convenient sampling was used to collect responses from employees of 20 IT companies in Bengaluru. Insights from employees working in IT companies are collected through the questionnaire. There were 740 questionnaires distributed, of which only 396 were returned in their completeness state. Statistical analyses, including regression and bootstrapping techniques, were done using SPSS and AMOS to examine the mediating effect of POS. The study highlights a noteworthy mediating effect of perceived organizational support (POS) on the relationship between CSR initiative and organizational attractiveness. It was also revealed that POS partially mediates CSR and OA, significantly influencing CSR and OA. Managerial implications of this study are that the organization focusing primarily on employee support measures enhances the external reputation and develops internal commitment and loyalty. Modelling and CFD simulation of vortex bladeless wind turbine
When the forces act on a bluff body in the wind flow direction, vortices are formed. Vortex bladeless wind turbine oscillates as a result of the vortices generated due to VIV. When the vortex shedding frequency is nearer to the natural frequency of the structure, maximum amplitude of vibration occurs and coincidentally power is generated. 3D models are designed to stimulate flow at a Reynolds number of 50000. This paper focuses on modelling the bladeless wind turbine based on semi-vortex angle and also 1) to study the vortices pattern and vorticity of different models 2) to study the drag and lift coefficients. In this paper vortex turbine is designed with certain parameters of dimension in Solid Edge and CFD analysis is carried out in Simscale software. Design and Analysis of Vortex Bladeless Wind Turbine
Vortex bladeless turbine antiquates the conventional wind turbine and adopts a radically innovative and novel approach to captivate the moving wind energy. This device effectively captures the energy of vorticity, an aerodynamic instability condition. As the wind passes a structure, the flow steers and cyclical patterns of vortices are generated. Once the strength of wind force is suffice, the structure starts vibrating and reaches resonance. Vortex bladeless is a vortex induced vibration resonant power generator. It harnesses wind energy from a phenomenon of vorticity, called vortex shedding effect. Clearly bladeless technology consists of a cylinder fixed vertically on an elastic rod, instead of tower, nacelle and blades which are the crucial parts of a conventional wind turbine. The cylinder oscillates on a specifically mentioned wind range, which then generate electricity through an alternator and a tuning system. In this paper the vortex turbine is designed with certain existing parameters of dimensions in Solidworks and the same is analyzed for different materials and dimensions of mast, which is an important part in the vortex turbine. Removal of arsenic using ecofriendly egg shell and black toner powder
This work is primarily focused on the study of the possible usage of ecofriendly black toner powder and egg shell powder as adsorbent material for the removal of arsenic from industrial effluent. Batch experiments were conducted by varying the concentration, size of the reinforcement particles, time and its pH value. The optimal pH for the effective removal of arsenic was found to be 7. The size of the particles played a significant role in removing the arsenic. Smaller size particles outperformed the bigger size particles and the joint action of intra-particle transfer and pore diffusion mechanism played a major role in the removal of arsenic. 2022 -
Removal of cadmium heavy metal ion using recycled black toner powder
The presence of heavy metal ions in the industrial effluents is considered as a major threat to humans and to the ecosystem. Among the available various types of heavy metal ions, cadmium is widely used in many industrial applications and is also considered as the hazardous heavy metal ion even in low level of concentration. In this present work, an attempt has been made to utilize the recycled black toner powder as a low cost adsorption material in the removal of toxic cadmium heavy metal ion. Batch adsorption technique was used for the removal of cadmium heavy metal ion. The experiments were conducted by varying the pH values from 3, 5 and 7, contact time from 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 min and the dosage of the adsorbent from 2, 4, 6 and 8 g/L. Experimental results shows that the cadmium heavy metal ions were effectively removed for pH value of 5 and increasing the adsorbent dosage doesn't aid in increasing the adsorption rate. Rapid adsorption of cadmium heavy metal ions was observed only during the first 30 min of contact time and it reached equilibrium after contact time of 45 min. 2021 -
Influence of magnetic field modulation on thermomagnetic convection in a layer of ferrofluid bounded by rigidfree boundaries
With a focus on rigidfree boundaries, the impact of magnetic field modulation on thermomagnetic convection in ferrofluids is studied. The effects of large and small-scale modulations are examined using linear theory. Utilizing the superposition principle and several perturbation modes, small-scale modulation is investigated. The case of large-scale modulation is dealt with the aid of Mathieu equation to shed light on the prevalence of subharmonic motions. Utility of Floquet theory resulted in an infinite linear system from which the critical magnetic Rayleigh number was evaluated in the case of large-scale modulations. Weak non-linear theory is used in arriving at the non-autonomous tri-modal Lorenz system, from which bifurcation and post-convective analyses are done. It was found that magnetic field-modulation has significant, yet varying stabilizing effects on the convection process, and is uniquely determined by the conditions of the medium and magnitude of the modulation. Another important outcome of the study is that magnetic field modulation induces hyperchaos within the tri-modal autonomous system, and occurs for random combinations of modulation parameters. The emergence of chaos for rigidfree boundaries is confirmed to occur between the equivalent rigidrigid and freefree cases. 2025 -
Hyperchaos in a three-dimensional non-autonomous system
This paper extends the weakly nonlinear stability analysis reported by Francis et al. [J. Eng. Math. 139, 5 (2023)] to cover post-convective regimes of the gravity-modulated Rayleigh-Bard convection in a Newtonian liquid, bounded by rigid-free isothermal boundaries. Weakly nonlinear stability analysis is performed by considering second harmonics in the Fourier series expansion of temperature, while the second harmonics in the velocity field is neglected owing to the assumption of small-scale convective motions. The occurrence of hyperchaos within the three-dimensional non-autonomous system is observed, induced by modulation, emerging for varying, random combinations of frequency and amplitude values. This result has not been reported in the literature before, to the best of the authors' knowledge. Bifurcation analysis is carried out for varying combinations of modulation parameters. It is found that gravity modulation, in general, stabilizes the convective system under consideration. 2025 Author(s). -
Unveiling Future Trends in Employer Branding: Systematic Review and Bibliometric Analysis
Employer branding, an emerging area in Human Resource Management (HRM), has gained significant importance. Despite its importance, the literature on employer branding remains fragmented due to the absence of a comprehensive review that consolidates the intellectual structure of the field. This study addresses the existing knowledge gap by conducting a systematic literature review accompanied by bibliometric analysis utilizing performance analysis and science mapping through the Tableau software package. Through a comprehensive review of 27 articles, this study reveals the key branding elements, top journals, contributing countries, industries, citation trends, sample statistics, theoretical contribution, and six key themes (i.e., Employer branding attributes, sustainable employer branding, employee-centric employer branding, social media employer branding, recruitment strategies, HRM practices of employer branding) that characterize the body of the employer branding. Finally, the study has identified an integrative framework and set the direction for future research. It offers actionable recommendations for HR practitioners, emphasizing technology integration in employer branding initiatives and incorporating sustainable practices to enhance organizational attractiveness. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the concept of employer branding. Unveiling the transformative role of chatbots: An insight from industry
In the 21st century, technological advancements have left an indelible mark on various industries. This study seeks to gauge the effectiveness of Chatbots with a specific lens on four pivotal sectors: Banking, Healthcare, Education and Information Technology. Acting as virtual conversation agents, Chatbots simulate human-like interactions. Through the lens of the Dialogue Manager theory, this research aims to pinpoint crucial attributes spanning distinct dimensions. These include the realm of the attributes, namely customer experience (user-friendliness, attentiveness, clarity, awareness and security), company experience (passion, timeliness, customer engagement, tracking customer), communication experience (observer, respectfulness, emotions, good listener, preciseness) and technology experience (updated technology, industry applied, quick response, problem-solving, high backup). This study investigates user perceptions, facilitating a more profound comprehension of Chatbot efficacy. Diversity Equity Inclusion Trifecta: Crafting Catchment Belonging Through Employer Branding
This conceptual paper explores the innovative approach of DEI trifecta crafting catchment belonging through branding. The study proposes a novel approach for organizations to tailor their employer branding efforts to the socio-cultural context of their catchment area, enhancing their ability to attract, engage, and retain a diverse workforce. This study draws an extensive review of literature from newspapers, HR Magazines, employer branding, and DEI. Through the synthesis of these concepts, a novel concept of Trifecta is framed. This study unveils the significance of catchment-specific employer branding in acknowledging talents diverse and unique expectations within a local community. It emphasizes that DEI efforts are most impactful when contextualized within the cultural norms and values of the catchment area. Examining the Components of Organizational Attractiveness: An Employee Perspective
This study examines the key components influencing organizational attractiveness in the Information Technology (IT) sector in Bangalore, India. A multistage sampling technique was employed to gather data from employees across twenty IT software companies in Bangalore. A structured questionnaire was administered, and a total of 740 responses were collected. Data analysis was conducted using the Statistical Programme for Social Sciences (SPSS 25.0), incorporating descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Exploratory factor analysis with Promax rotation was applied to extract the primary factors contributing to organizational attractiveness. The analysis revealed nine critical factors influencing organizational attractiveness: career growth opportunities (CGO), corporate social responsibility (CSR), flexible work practices (FWP), perceived organizational prestige (POP), perceived organizational support (POS), happiness at work (HAW), professional stability (PS), work options (WO), and compressed workweeks (CW). CGO and FWP emerged as the most impactful factors, reflecting employees' preferences for career advancement and work-life balance. Pilot Study on Adoption and Usage of AI in Food Processing Industry by UTAUT2
Artificial intelligence (AI) improves the efficiency of work and effectiveness in the output. Currently, food processing industries have started using AI in their business operations. It is crucial to have an in-depth understanding of the adoption and usage of AI systems in food processing industries. Therefore, this paper validates the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) in the context of the food processing industry. This study applied AI to the food processing industries in the Bengaluru region. The study's objective is to build a clear vision of the factors that affect the user acceptance and behaviour intention of the user by pilot test. The pilot survey collected 62 responses through the questionnaire. The respondents were employees from the food processing industries in Bengaluru. The reliability test of the questionnaire was done by using Jamovi 2.3.16 software. The questionnaire was tested in three ways: Cronbach Alpha, McDonalds Omega, and Inter-rater reliability. The results of the entire test were reliable since overall Cronbach Alpha of 0.874, which is within the range of 0.800.90, and considered good internal consistency. Similarly, McDonalds Omega is within the range of 0.800.90, which is excellent consistency, and Inter-rater reliability is within the range of moderately acceptable scores from 50 to 75%. 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
