Toward sustainable and eco-friendly production of coffee: abatement of wastewater and evaluation of its potential valorization
Abstract: Coffee is one of the most significant beverages consumed worldwide, dating to times immemorial. It plays a pivotal role in several economies owing to its second position in the list of trading commodity, after petroleum. The growing demand for coffee has resulted in a great amount of coffee production and processing and subsequent release of large volumes of wastewater. This wastewater is characterized to have very high chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand with potential to cause environmental pollution thus requiring smart strategies to effectively reduce their load of the wastewater before releasing them into the habitable ambiance. The existing research on coffee wastewater treatment should be critically analyzed for their sustainability and economic viability for them to be commercially used in developing countries for effluent mitigation. This literature review aims to suggest an effective way to treat the wastewater by combining various methods, coupling it with value addition like energy generation. The goal of this review is to provide a direction for future research to integrated treatment with valorization along with a focus on emerging technologies. Spatial and seasonal association study between PM2.5 and related contributing factors in India
Global environmental pollution and rapid climate change have become a serious matter of concern. Remarkable spatial and seasonal variations have been observed due to rapid industrialization, urbanization, different festive occasions, etc. Among all the existing pollutants, the fine airborne particles PM2.5 (with aerodynamic equivalent diameter ?2.5?m) and PM10 (with aerodynamic equivalent diameter ?10?m) are associated with chronic diseases. This leads to carry out the study regarding the varying relationship between PM2.5 and other associated factors so that its concentration level might be under control. Existing literature has explored the geographical association between the pollutants and a few other important factors. To address this problem, the present study aims to explore the wide spatio-temporal relationships between the particulate matter (PM2.5) with the other associated factors (e.g., socio-demographic, meteorological factors, and air pollutants). For this analysis, the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model with different kernels (viz. Gaussian and Bisquare kernels) and the ordinary least squares (OLS) model have been carried out to analyze the same from the perspective of the four major seasons (i.e., autumn, winter, summer, and monsoon) in different districts of India. It may be inferred from the results that the local model (i.e., GWR model with Bisquare kernel) captures the spatial heterogeneity in a better way and their performances have been compared in terms of R2 values (>0.99 in all cases) and corrected Akaike information criterion (AICc) (maximum value -618.69 and minimum value -896.88). It has been revealed that there is a strong negative impact between forest coverage and PM pollution in northern India during the major seasons. The same has been found in Delhi, Haryana, and a few districts of Rajasthan during the 1-year cycle (October 2022September 2023). It has also been found that PM concentration levels become high over the specified period with the temperature drop in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, etc. Moreover, a strong positive association is visible in PM pollution level with the total population. Genetically modified foods: bibliometric analysis on consumer perception and preference
In this study, we present the bibliometric trends emerging from research outputs on consumer perception and preference for genetically modified (GM) foods and policy prescriptions for enabling the consumption using VOSviewer visualization software. Consumers positive response is largely influenced by the decision of the governments to ban or approve the GM crops cultivation. Similarly, the public support increases when the potential benefits of the technology are well articulated, consumption increases with a price discount, peoples trust on the government and belief in science increases with a positive influence by the media. Europe and the USA are the first region and country, respectively, in terms of the number of active institutions per research output, per-capita GDP publication and citations. We suggest research-, agri-food industries-, and society-oriented policies to be implemented by the stakeholders to ensure the safety of GM foods, encourage consumer-based studies, and increase public awareness toward these food products. 2022 The Author(s). Artificial intelligence for diabetic retinopathy detection: A systematic review
The incidence of diabetic retinopathy (DR) has increased at a rapid pace in recent years all over the world. Diabetic eye illness is identified as one of the most common reasons for vision loss among people. To properly manage DR, there has been immense research and exploration of state-of-the-art methods using artificial intelligence (AI) enabled models. Specifically, AI-empowered models combine multiple machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) based algorithms to improve the performance of the developed system architectures that are commercially utilized for the detection of DR disease. However, these models still exhibit several limitations, such as computational complexity, low accuracy in DR stage detection due to class imbalance, more time consumption, and high maintenance cost. To overcome these limits, a more advanced model is required to accurately predict the DR stage in the initial stages. For example, the identification of DR disease in the initial stage helps the ophthalmologist to make an accurate and safe diagnosis, and thereby, eyesight-related issues may be treated more effectively. This study conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) to provide a detailed discussion of the background of diabetic retinopathy, its major causes, challenges faced by ophthalmologists in DR detection, and possible solutions for identifying DR in the initial stage. Also, the SLR provides an in-depth analysis of the existing state-of-the-art techniques and system models used in DR diagnosis based on AI, ML, and recently developed DL-based approaches. EShield: An effective detection and mitigation of flooding in DDoS attacks over large scale networks
Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks are very hard to be mitigated in wireless network environment. Here in this manuscript, an effective method of flood detection and mitigation architecture is proposed named eShield, which detects and prevent flooding attacks through spoof detection technique. The proposed method uses an architecture and an algorithm. eShield deals with Intrusion Protection and Detection Systems (IPDS) which collaboratively defend flooding attacks at different points in the network. Here eShield detects the supply node with its port variety which were below assault. Inorder to reduce the burden on international IPDS eShield makes use of distinct nearby IPDS for the assaults in flooding which have been carried out collaboratively. The assessment is done through the widespread simulation of eShield and it is proved to be an actual values based on time delay, false positive rates, computation and communication overhead. Effect of Copper and Cobalt Metal Complex Redox Mediator Based Xanthan Gum Gel Electrolyte Materials on Performance of Dye Sensitized Solar Cells
In this study, we report the first application of (4-(tert-butyl) benzyl or 4-methyl benzyl)-substituted 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]-imidazole coordinated copper and cobalt redox shuttles Cu [((tbb) pbi)2]+1/+2, Cu [(mbpbi)2]+1/+2, Co [((tbb) pbi)3]+2/+3 and Co [(mbpbi)3]+2/+3 based xanthan gum gel electrolytes (XGE-1, XGE-2, XGE-3 and XGE-4) in fabrication of Dye sensitized solar cells. Interestingly, XGE-1 and XGE-2 obtained higher efficiency of 4.08 and 3.04 % under 1sun illumination. Specifically, highly donor moiety 4-(tert-butyl)benzyl)-substituted (on N?H position) 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]-imidazole ligands coordinated, Cu [((tbb) pbi)2]+1/+2 gel electrolyte achieved best performance due to its appropriate redox potential of 0.80 V versus Normal Hydrogen Electrode. This high performance also confirmed with the interfacial studies of the devices. As per the computational results, the copper redox mediators conquered lower reorganization energy and free energy about (0.11-0.20 & 0.180.27 eV) due to the effect of ligands structure. Overall, Cu [((tbb) pbi)2]+1/+2 act as redox shuttle for highly proficient DSSCs. 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH. -

Performance analysis of Flyash with Bentonite in grounding pit
In modern era of power systems, generation, transmission and distribution is well operated and maintained to satisfy the demand and supply management. Various problems are faced every day in all the power system areas. One among the problems faced in all the high voltage electrical equipment's is grounding. Natural grounding is done using charcoal and salt to maintain the less resistance in the grounding pit but the less resistance grounding pit becomes high resistive area due to various reasons like improper maintenance, charcoal and salt getting dissolved in soil after some period of time. A study on effect of branding on customer buying behaviour with reference to Vellore
We set out to discover how consumers really feel about different branded items by conducting this study. This research aims to examine what variables impact consumers when they buy a product. There are a lot of aspects that affect a product's brand value these days, but consumers are especially sensitive to the product's reputation when making purchases. Another important factor in how people perceive a brand is advertisements. The study was conducted with a sample size of 50 and was confined to the Chennai area. Does risk management components influence on project success? Evidence from IT sector
All organizations and stakeholders would ideally like to see an information technology (IT) project managed successfully. Many researchers have strongly debated the importance of risk management in project management about the size of the project since it gives project managers a forward-looking view of risks and chances to increase the project's success. The main aim of the study is to determine how risk management parameters and their mediated effects impact the effectiveness of IT projects. Data was collected from 261 IT professionals involved in projects through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using regression and SEM to test their statistical significance and prove the hypothesis. The study arrived at some significant results which showed the relationship of Risk Identification and Risk Analysis on Risk Assessment, which impacts Project Success. It also showed that the success of the project depended on Stake-holders Tolerance and Risk Implementation. In addition to this, the study provides evidence that risk management does not influence the success of the project. Why should businesses care about the metaverse
The fourth wave of computer innovation is now being driven by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), two spatial, immersive technologies. This new paradigm is called the Metaverse. Although the metaverse is still in its infancy, history demonstrates how swiftly new technology can advance, potentially leaving those who lag. According to many observers, the current uptick in activity by large tech businesses is assisting in bringing some order to the market's volatility by providing startup companies with the dependable mainstream customer bases they lack. Gen z student expectations towards employer attractiveness: An indian perspective
A study was undertaken to determine Generation Z management students' perceptions as to what factors would attract them to seek a career in an organization, and their expectations in this context. Over 330 students from both first- and second- year management programs participated in the self- administered printed questionnaire based on 25- item employer attractiveness scale and included additional items like choosing the top five items from the 25 list. A focus group discussion was also undertaken to determine what the perceived benefit to the students was for each of the 25 items would deliver to them. The study also compared the findings with published research and notes the common factors in terms of employer branding, employee engagement industry studies on work and links to other models like Herzberg's hygiene factors. Preparation characterization and applications of mixed oxides ceria-samaria supported on rice husk ash as catalysts for organic synthesis
Catalysis is a well-established scientific discipline, dealing with fundamental principles involved in the preparation, properties, applications and mechanisms of catalytic reactions of various catalysts. The preparation of silica from agricultural waste rice husk is an economical and environmentally benign process. Mixed oxides of ceria and samaria are a multifunctional catalytic system that has attracted wide-range of research in different fields. These mixed oxide catalysts are generally used for redox reactions and acid-base reactions in organic synthesis. The catalytic activity of these materials can be enhanced by using silica as a support system. To achieve the best structural and morphological features, different synthetic protocols were tried out while incorporating CeO2 and Sm2O3 on SiO2 to maximize the catalytic efficacy. In the present study, bimetallic oxides of ceria and samaria supported on silica catalysts were prepared by ultra sonicator, rota vapour method, wet impregnation and incipient wet impregnation methods. Further modification of ceria-samaria-silica catalysts using MoO3, La2O3 and mixed forms of MoO3 and La2O3 led to the formation of tri or tetra metallic mixed oxides on silica system. A detailed physico chemical characterization of the prepared catalysts using different spectroscopic and non-spectroscopic methods was carried out to understand the nature, stability and the functional groups present in the system. The heterogeneous catalytic route for organic synthesis is of major interest as it is sustainable and eco-friendlier. Utilizing biowaste like rice husk and its modified forms to synthesize useful and industrially significant organic compounds has been attempted with success in the present work. Thus, the prepared catalysts were subsequently evaluated for their catalytic activity towards oxidation, esterification, transesterification and Friedel Crafts' benzylation reactions. To achieve maximum yield and good selectivity, the different reaction parameters were optimized for all the reactions that were studied. Oxidation of cyclohexanone with benzyl alcohol to caprolactone and benzaldehyde has been studied after optimizing the reaction parameters. Recycle and leaching studies were conducted to understand the stability and reusability of the catalytic system for the above-mentioned reactions. These catalysts were also found effective in the synthesis of caprolactone, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of biodegrading polymers. Selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde too has been achieved using these catalysts. Surface area and acidity have played major roles in these reactions. Finally, dibenzyl toluene was synthesized by benzylation of toluene using benzyl chloride. In all the studies, plausible mechanisms involving the catalyst have also been suggested. Thus, a comprehensive study of rice husk silica-supported ceria and samaria systems and the multi metal oxide silica systems has been conducted and it has proved to be an efficient, recoverable, stable and eco-friendly catalyst combined with simple workup for industrially important organic syntheses. -
Role of Sm3+ and Ce4+ on mesoporous rice husk silica for selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde
Silica was prepared from rice huskagricultural wasteby soaking and pyrolysis method. Ceria and samaria were impregnated on silica by rotavapor-assisted impregnation method. The physicochemical properties of CeSm/Si catalyst were determined by BET, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, and n-butylamine titration. Catalytic activity was evaluated by oxidation of benzyl alcohol (Bzl-OH) to benzaldehyde (B-CHO) using H2O2 as an oxidant in acetonitrile medium. Different reaction parameters like time, temperature, solvent, and catalyst amount on the reaction were also studied. Among the various catalysts, 50Ce50Sm/Si showed the impressive catalytic performance with a selectivity of 91.4% to benzaldehyde. The improved catalytic performance was attributed to the well dispersion of ceriasamaria on the surface of silica. These materials can be reused effectively up to four cycles without significant loss in their selectivity. Moreover, excellent selectivity of benzaldehyde in shorter duration using modified rice husk silica catalysts makes this protocol highly attractive and practically beneficial. Designing Biomass Rice Husk Silica as an Efficient Catalyst for the Synthesis of Biofuel Additive n-Butyl Levulinate
The conversion of lignocellulosic biomass levulinic acid to biorefinery platform organic component n-butyl levulinate is done by an eco-friendly process. The catalyst used for this reaction was prepared by an innovative strategy of impregnating CeO2 and Sm2O3 on silica derived from rice husk, biomass of low economic value, using different methods. The impregnation of ceria and samaria into the silica framework led to a change in the textural properties which was confirmed by various spectroscopic methods. A comprehensive study of the influence of reaction parameters on the esterification of levulinic acid with n-butanol revealed the optimum conditions for maximum yield and selectivity. In the solvent-free condition, the reaction achieved 94.9% conversion of levulinic acid and 97.2% selectivity of n-butyl levulinate within a duration of 1.5h. STUDY OF BOUND AND CONTINUUM STATE BETA DECAY RATES OF A FEW BARE NUCLEI
Beta decay is one of the most widely studied research problems in nuclear physics. There has been a growing interest in understanding the dynamics of beta decay transitions for many decades. Many research groups have invested a lot of time, money and effort in experiments as well as developing the theory for the same. Lot of work was done using Fermis theory and huge amount of data is available in that domain of nuclear physics. But recently, standard model has gained a lot of attention in the eyes of theoretical nuclear physicists and particle physicists to understand nuclear transitions with more importance to gluons mixing and quark mixing by incorporating CKM matrix and PMNS matrix elements. Subsequently, the standard model theory is applied to beta decay to gain a better insight with the application of standard weak interaction Hamiltonian to compute decay rates. The half life and stability of these nuclei depends on decay rates. Also, it gives us an idea about the kind of transitions which happen and which dont. Recent interest in comparison of two modes of beta decay namely, continuum and bound state for same mother and daughter set, paved way for a lot of interesting calculations by various research groups. It is exciting to understand as to how their differences are compared. The aim of this work is to predict continuum and bound state beta decay rates using approach incorporating standard weak theory for some new transitions, which has not been done so far and also compare few decay rates with existing experimental values done by various groups all over the globe. -

Hybrid sparse and block-based compressive sensing algorithm for industry based applications
Image reconstructions are a challenging task in MRI images. The performance of the MRI image can be measure by following parameters like mean squared error (MSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity index (SSIM). Compromising the above parameters and reconstructing the MRI image leads to false diagnosing. To avoid the false diagnosis, we have combined sparse based compressive sensing and block-based compressive sensing algorithm, and we introduced the hybrid sparse and block-based compressive sensing algorithm (HSBCS). In compressive stage, however, image reconstruction performance is decreased, hence, in the image reconstruction module, we have introduced convex relaxation algorithm. This proposed algorithm is obtained by relaxing some of the constraints of the original problem and meanwhile extending the objective function to the larger space. The performance is compared with the existing algorithm, block-based compressive sensing algorithm (BCS), BCS based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and sparse based compress-sensing algorithm (SCS). The experimentation is carried out using BRATS dataset, and the performance of image compression HSBCS evaluated based on SSIM, and PSNR, which attained 56.19 dB, and 0.9812.
